It may come as some shock to my regualar readers
to learn that some people find me offensive.
They don't come right out and say it to me,
they tell someone else.

I don't read nonverbal cues very well.
and when I am talking about something that I find
fascinating, the words "will you stop talking about that"
are the most effective shutoff.

But I'm supposed to be deliberately continueing
in the face of nonverbal cues and the supposedly
obvious to anyone discomfort of the person.

Well, I'm sorry, but it ain't that simple.

Throughout my life I have found myself being
sternly informed to stop what I am doing.
What am I doing?
You know.
No, I don't.
If you didn't know about it, you wouldn't be doing it.
Huh?

Msybe it's my size. I don't know.
Apparently I scare people and don't know it.
And apparently they don't know that the more
scared I am by a situation or a person or persons,
the more I talk.

Of course, I'm not supposed to be scared of anything.
I'm big. I'm a man. I'm old enough to be fearless.
I'm also not supposed to make anyone uncomfortable.
I'm big, I'm a man, and I'm LOUD when I get excited.
I'm not supposed to be excited. I'm supposed to be
an utter professional and gentleman at all times.

When all others around me are making fools of themselves,
I am supposed to remain calm and let them.

Pfui.

I'm surrounded by idiots.

I peeved a pregnant woman at work.
She carried the tale home to her new husband.
He pulled up in his Explorer, with half the eight kids
(not all his) in it, in front of me in the parking lot of
my workplace the other day and attempted to intidimate me.

It didn't work.
Now, it seems that his pregnant wife has carried that tale
from his perspective back to work.
It seems that he wasn't pleased with my tired guy wanting to go home
response and he and the kids decided that I was lying.
His pregnant wife carried that part of the tale to work also.
And to my boss.
Now, according to the WR, my boss will want to talk to me
tomorrow morning.
Whoopee.
Now, according to the WR, my boss is also incensed that ANYONE
who is not an EMPLOYEE (he was hired at one point but his
conviction for armed robbery didn't sit too well with corporate)
would approach one of her people on company property and
attempt to intidimate them with regard to their
behavior at work.
Oh, boy.

Now, the WR has never liked this guy, because he spends way too much time around the store when his wife is working. And when he's not there, she is on the phone with him. The WR regards this as a bit much.

So she's taking a particular glee in stage managing a little showdown between the boss and the woman.
I just hope I don't get caught in any fallout.
This boy is dangerous. Not because he is a criminal, but because
he is stupid.

I have a low tolerance for fools and I am not ashamed to let
anybody know about it, including the fool and that's
what started all this crap in the first place.

I'm surrounded by idiots.

I think I'll go take a nap.
I managed to mow 3/4 of my lawn before it started raining.
I guess I should thank God for the free shower as I got SOAKED.

Was the pregnant woman a fellow employee or a customer ( think it was a customer from reading your thread)? Do the other employees know that you have difficulty reading verbal clues. If so, they should make allowances for it.

I think you're saying that this is the best way for people to stop you when they aren't finding the subject interesting. Have I understood rightly, or does this offend you? Little will go on endlessly about Star Wars or Yugio (sp?) cards and honestly, I'm often not remotely interested.

The woman in question is an employee. I've known her for years, even when I was just a customer at the store.

It is hard to tell what offends me anymore about human behavior.
"Please shut up" or "stop talkng about that" doesn't offend me because when I'm not talking, I have this internal monologue going on constantly anyway.
It's part of what helps me write quickly and effectively sometimes.
The words have been worked out long before.

sometimes if I am in a loose conversation I will just be riffing off the words that people say and sometimes the first thing to pop out of my mouth didn't even stop on the brain on it's way out.

It's kinda like improvisational music to me, but normal folks, who aren't paying much attention to the words they are using will be pulled up short by the ones I use.

I get caught up in visual imagery and say what I am seeing and it is so out there compared to normal convention sometimes that they think I'm crazy. I think they are crazy for being so satisfied with words and imagery that is so limited.

'The woman in question is an employee. I've known her for years' She should know that you didn't mean to offend, then! I suspect she has her own stuff and is projecting it out on you. Blaming someone else for how we are feeling is a wonderful way of not owning up to our stuff.

Has it settled down (the situation with the woman, I mean)?

Um, yes, if there ever was a 'situation'.
Sometimes I think the WR creates drama where there is none.
Of course, I guess I've been guilty of this meself.
But she is not a commentator nor a writer.
Unless I'm missing something.

I think she used to write poetry.

I don't think I've ever written poetry. I used to think it was too high-flown with all the metres and rhymn patterns. We weren't taught about free-flow poetry when I was a child. It's all different with little 's generation.
