What we have here is a failure to communicate

I might need an English to English translator.

'where is the msi?' someone asked me over the phone, which led to:
Me: 'I don't know, haven't used it in months, check the drawers.'
Him: 'Already checked those'.
Me: 'there is a box of outdated devices in there'
Him: 'I found this blue crate of cables and pc parts, but it's not in there.'
*rummaging around noises*
Him: 'I don't see it in the drawers, either'
Me: 'cardboard box, I said, on the cart.'
Him: 'In the closet?'
Me: 'The cart, on the cart'
Him: 'Oh, that box...nope, not in there.

This would be funny except that, a computer crashed yesterday taking with it the program we use to order merchandise from our largest grocery distributor. The device he was looking for is the older machine that still works, but takes longer. The order is due tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. Hopefully, the tech can get us a replacement before then.

Is it poor hearing?

More like poor listening.

I called our other (smaller) store and asked if we could borrow their ordering device to be told that ours was there because they borrowed it when theirs was needing to be replaced (and has been). Guess who loaned it to them and didn't remember.

Poor listening can be overcome, but you rarely encounter it in mature adults. Alas, not everyone matures on schedule. smiley - sadface

I was going to say, mature and adult are not necessarily synonymous. smiley - winkeye

I agree. That's why I said "mature adults." There are immature ones, alas. Somebody has to pick up after them.

'Selective hearing' is closer, I think.
