Another day at the office
Evangeline Posted Sep 22, 2011
Nope, doesn't socialize with anyone from work. Seems he and his wife have some friends that they visit now and again. His wife is nice and their son is smart and polite.

He's not that overt. It's more of a leering, mumbling, behind your back sort of thing.

I'd have to get unquestionable evidence to avoid lawsuits.

Co-workers seem to get on each other's nerves pretty much everywhere. It's a given. There's probably a reason why the boss scolds him but keeps him on the payroll. To me, though, the bottom line is how much he keeps people from doing their jobs. If you get people off balance enough, things can get slipshod, and then the business is in trouble.

Well, he does his job well. If he'd stop right there at does job well, doesn't socialize and avoids others, I'd be happy. Why he's still there is probably somewhere between he shows up regularly, does his job, and has a wife and child to support.
I agree about the lost time. For something that took him two minutes to do, that upset someone else, who told another who then told me or another manager who then had to do damage control by either calming down the target or actually removing the problem... at fifteen minutes a piece, that's an hour or longer until things are back to what passes for normal. That is the point I'm trying to get the boss to see. It doesn't just go away in two minutes, it's not usually just one person that then gets distracted.

I'm getting the picture, Evangeline. Thank for sharing. Ultimately, though, as much as I'd like to help, I can't solve the problem from a distance. Again, I have seen some amazing workplace shenanigans. It goes with working with other humans. No place is anywhere near perfect.

Y'all have been quite helpful whether you realize it or not. Knowing that the problem is real helps. Objectively, you all see that just the things I've listed here are inappropriate. When discussed with anyone else the reactions range from understatement as 'damage control' by the boss ('oh, just calm down and it will go away'), to emotional or enraged(yelling, swearing) reactions warranted or not, that don't get closer to a resolution.

I'm going to unsubscribe now, Evangeline. I've said all the useful stuff that I can say. I don't want to waste anyone's time with small talk.
Bye!

On reflection, it would probably best if you didn't show him this - A87624994.
