Ding'd or Dang?

Post 1

Evangeline

I was in the room across from my office the other day, when a call came through on my cell phone, which was in my office. Everyone sort of looked around for what made *that* noise.

My cell phone only dings once(very quietly) for a call and sort of electronically hiccups for a text message.

When my friends call and leave a message at my house, I tend to return the call and ask "You rang?". Now, when I call the same friends to return their call to my cell phone, what should I ask them?

So far, the factions are split equally between "You ding'd?" and "You dang?".

I would still say, "You rang?" The specific sound that the cellphone makes is not the issue. smiley - zen

But if I *had* to choose from the possibilities you gave, I would go with dinged.

My friends are kind of dingy. smiley - winkeye

Actually, it was my friends who were teasing about how that didn't sound like a "real phone".

It doesn't need to be that loud or ding that many times. The phone is either in my pocket or another room (because I can't use it at the time). Between caller I.D., voice mail, text messages, email alerts and the missed call list, I'll get back to them.... eventually. I have to, they know where I live.

Yes, they do know how to make me talk. If nothing else they will call my house at one of those really absurd hours of the morning or show up on my doorstep in the evening.

One of those friends learned long ago that I can and will answer the phone in my sleep, hold a coherent conversation with them and not remember it the next day.
