Twisted Ankle and Passed Out
Ellen Started conversation Dec 7, 2007
Hi everyone. I was stepping off a curb in a grocery parking lot yesterday, and my heel caught on the curb, twisting the hell out of my ankle and making me fall. Once down on the ground, I was clutching my ankle in pain, and I passed out! When I came to, it took me a minute to figure out where I was, and there were worried people bending over me. Good Samaritans luckily, they helped me get to my car, and then drove me home, since I was in no condition to drive. I've been putting ice on the ankle some, keeping it elevated, taking Advil, and all that jazz. Can hardly walk at all, but I think it is only a bad twist, and not broken. Timing is terrible, since I'm moving at the end of the month. Luckily most of my stuff is already packed, and I think my ankle will be better by moving day.

as you were unconscious, you ought to get checked out by a medical-type person
I hope you mend quickly, dearand with your move.

I third it. Get thee to a medical-type person.
In the meantime, put your foot up (on a packing-box if necessary) and rest...

Right, there are enough of us here now to organise a stretcher and carry the patient off to a clinic. Anybody got a doctor handy?

I'll add my and ask that you see a doctor, just to be safe.
Poor you. Keep it elevated, and ice packs will help keep swelling and bruising to a minimum. After a day or so, hot soaks with epsom salts might be helpful.
I hope you're taking good care of yourself.

"R;I;C;E" rest, ice, compression, elevation for the ankle. But if you were unconscious, even for a short while; you absolutely must get it checked out.
As for the actual move, well; if you can't haul stuff around, someone else will have to help. Time to start phoning fiends, family, fellow Churchgoers etc. I've roped in totally unknown young fit students in the past, pay them in & they are happy to haul! It might turn out to be a blessing in disguise; get them all involved with the heavy duty stuff, you order in a pizza for the housewarming to say , even if *you* might be a bit shy about meeting the neighbours, i bet some of JEllen's little helpers won't be!
Tripping over is pretty much par for the course when you are over-tired & stressed out, i have had days this week when i have knocked over just about everything i didn't even know i had touched; as dear Abbi would wisely say "You *have* to learn to pace yourself, listen to your body saying 'Gimme a break will you!'" Not easy when there are distinct time limits; but absolutely essential; while you're resting the poor ankle (not its fault!)Maybe make a priority list of what is vital & who can help you with it.
*Gagghh; if i could help, i would, but i would be a disaster zone, just something else to worry about : "oh look what went hurtling down the stairs with the box of china!"

Don't Panic folks! I'll talk to my doctor. And I am resting my ankle most of the time. In fact, the main problem now is just boredom. My family is helping with groceries, etc. And I have movers lined up for the move. Also, I did NOT hit my head when I fell. I'm pretty sure I just passed out from shock while I was already on the ground. But I will see what Doc has to say.

The trick is Two crépe bandages & ice bags around them; keep one in the fridge & one on your ankle, soon as it starts to drip, swap for the other. Wet and messy, but it does work. Park yourself near the fridge obviously if possible, or at least within hopping distance...i doubt you can train Micio to sort icy bandages out!
Good that you have help organised; what sort of whip are you using?

Ouch! I know what that's all about JEllen. I've got reasonably weak or easily injured ankles. Sounds like you've got things under control though...as Terri said R.I.C.E.-rest, ice, compression & elevation. And is usually a reasonable option I think.

boredom is annoying when forced to sit all day...
have a notebook, drawingbook and pc near you...

<Tripping over is pretty much par for the course when you are over-tired & stressed out> mentioned earlier by Terri - I was thinking the same thing, especially with the move and everything.
There's a book out here in Germany called: Krankheit als Weg. Deutung und Be-Deutung der Krankheitsbilder. Which is very literally translated to Illness as a sign (perhaps lil or Bel can do better). Which basically means that when your body is stress out it says no more!!
Don't forget that Moving (or planning to move) is one of the three stressful things that one can do in life - the others being getting married and going on holiday!
Get well soon!!

It's a wonder the human race continues really, when so many folks get married, go off on honeymoon, then set up a new house together!
Hope you're feeling better today JEllen...& that you managed to get to see the Doc. Yup, the "Doc 'n Choc will help a shock" cure! Plus of course; Lil, get the kettle on will you please?
