I'm taking my MRCP Part 1 again tomorrow. I haven't really enough enough revision, as I've been too busy reading books about South Africa and worring about the welfare of my cat if I go abroad.
Anyway one of the reaons I was annoyed was that my friend J was taking it. He's always done better than me at medical school, and he is a very good friend, but I've got a bit of an inferiority complex compared to him.
The entire reason I took it in Janurary was because I wanted to be as good as he was! He got an honours degree - and was in the top 10% of our year. I just bumbled along and passed, but not fantastically.
Anyway tomorrow is my second attempt and his first -we've both been using the same website to revise on -and my average is higher than his! A quick conversation has established we both have similar levels of knowledge. Or at least about Renal Tubular Acidosis and the Anion Gap.
I want to pass - or to be more precise I don't want to fail. I don't want to be the sort of person who took 3 attempts to get MRCP Part 1.

Good look, and if it's like the RCS exam then if you don't know something don't guess cus in the RCS exam if you get something wrong you lose marks.

No it's not negatively marked.
Yes, friendly competativeness is a motivator, but I seriously thought that it would eb walking it and I would be borderline.
I still think he'll pass and I won't.
Still time to learn more causes of macrocytosis. Joy of Joys.

Ah, well I suppose it's probably more important know just how much you know in surgery, after all you don't want someone operating on you and guessing what to do.

in the exam, Z. Be cool and remember, people who do well in exams don't always do well in the field (especially *not* the field you are aspiring to...)
Let your friend ace the exam, you sail it. Then you ace the field and he'll prolly flee it.

Z!
'Let your friend ace the exam, you sail it. Then you ace the field and he'll prolly flee it.'
Now *that* is seriously good advice

Of all the doctors in training or newly qualified ones I've met, you are one of the few that I'd trust with my health.

Don't think about what your friend is doing - remember that this is about you and your life. You know what you know, so keep calm and surround yourself with some positive energy !
