Why some people think Nestle aren't the most wonderful chaps in the world, and therefore stop or reduce their purchases of Nestle's many fine products.

Interesting stuff. There are some little typos (I think) but I don't have the time right now.... I'd like to see this on the front page (and the front page of all national newspaprs... but that's a digression).
Perhaps you might like to provide a list of other Nestlé products for people who want to either join the boycott, or conversely, show their support for the company? (I really really can't give up Chunky KitKats right now, but the instant coffee... ok, it's gone!)

Perhaps, in an attempt to balance the article, you should approach Nestle for a response. If you mention that the article may appear on the BBC website, you may get their PR dept's attention.

Or their legal department...
I link to their 'babymilk issue facts' page, which should be enough for now. Once this has made its way through Peer Review, and is a little more polished, I'll send them an email...
List of products - I'll try and find a link

Hiya!
One person who might be worth a mention is Mark Thomas - of the Mark Thomas Comedy Product, who I believe got the whole process started...
The show was shown on Channel 4 in the UK, so they may have more details on him and the boycott on thier site...

This entry has been temporarily hidden whilst the content is checked by the BBC legal team.

Unfortunately, Lucinda, it would appear that your tag was a bit too optimistic. The ing Moderators have stepped in and censored the Entry! Oh well, I hope I get the chance to read it one day...

The H2G2 Editors Posted Sep 24, 2001
The entry has only been referred to check for potential libel. It's entirely possible that Lucinda anticipated the possibility that this might happen, considering the nature of the entry.

Ormondroyd Posted Sep 24, 2001
True enough. I hope it passes the legal tests and gets un-hidden, though, because it's certainly an interesting topic for an Entry.

yeah - I did rather expect problems That's why I included plenty of external links and links to BBC sites.
Umm - I wanna add that list of products, and maybe some other stuff, but that'll make it visible again - should I hold off till your lawyers have looked? Or do it now so that they won't have to look again?
But I can give you all the executive summary: Don't buy Nescafe!

Hi Lucinda
We've just received some intial feedback from the laywers and they are concerned that the entry does contain some defamatory material. We're seeking more detailed clarification, but at the moment it would appear that the entry needs work before it can appear.
We're just about to go home, so it would be best if you would hold off editing this entry until tomorrow.
We'll get back to you as soon as we can with more specific information.

I had a similar problem before - don't blame the moderators, it's not their fault. Blame the UK libel laws instead.

I read this earlier in the day and I don't remember seeing anything that wasn't factual. You obviously didn't use the word 'allegedly' enough.
I thought it was a good entry. I only had two thoughts after reading it - firstly whether it might be better to start with the background, keeping the initial set of links to further down the page. Initially I found it slightly offputting to be faced with a list of links before getting into the subject. Secondly, although I take your point that the WHO contraventions are too lengthy to go into in detail, I wondered if a brief example might be included in the entry along with the links to the detail.
I find Nestles involvement in our Government's decision making on vaccination for foot and mouth thought provoking. Someone mentioned it over the weekend and now its on h2g2 as well!

It's no biggy. I'll include the facts in the entry itself, phrased so innocently that not even Nestle's lawyers could complain, and leave the condemnation to my fellow researchers in the attached fora... I was thinking of adding a petition too, on the lines of the amnesty international anti-torture petition.
Dr. Gonzo - I blame the sue-happy legal departments of certain multinational companies
Thanks for your help,
Lucinda - gagged (and loving it )

Totally off topic, but I wish I'd known you liked being gagged when you stayed here Lucinda...
