Lucinda, you said: "Clearly some meaning of "We're working with him on this one" of which I was previously unaware. On the flip side, this does at least explain why the homophobe blacklist hasn't reappeared..."
The "we" refers to the Editors, and thus your comment does imply that it is the Editors' method of "working with you" that is the cause of the blacklist failing to reappear. Thus we would still sue for defamation.
Luckily, this isn't a real case!

Even though it's not part of your job to 'work with me'?
Besides, don't you have to show quantifiable damages before you can sue? Or is that negligence I'm thinking of?

The H2G2 Editors Posted Sep 27, 2001
But it *is* part of our job to work with the Community to produce the Guide, and customer support involves working with customers to solve their problems, so we disagree.
As for showing quantifiable damages, that's not a requirement for defamation.
(You can tell we've just spent the morning in a defamation seminar with the lawyers, can't you! )

Peta:
"And maybe Mark doesn't even have a beard ... "
Oh, dear, now I'm in WAY over my head.
I've only ever seen one picture of Mark,
and he seemed to have a beard. If I *saw*
a beard that wasn't there, then my eyes are
far worse than I thought.....

Well.
I'm really upset with me for not having been around peer review the last few days and, therefore, not having read this entry.
I really, REALLY want to read this.

Just to let everyone know that I've reactivated the entry with a temporary 'holding page', rather than that terribly ugly default one. It's got a link to a semi-recent BBC news article which does a passable job of explaining the situation. I think it was written shortly after the "breaking the code, stretching the code, 2001" report from the International Baby Food Action Network was published, but I could be wrong.
If people want to discuss Nestle's activities, the boycott, etc, then please do so there - it'll give me a bit of light relief while I wade through legalese...

I tried Lucinda, I even based my comments on published research, but it got moderated! I think the editors are finding this a very difficult subject. Still its fun to watch!

Well, I hope they don't have to waste too much of their time on an issue which kills 1.5 million children a year - that would be a tragedy...

interesting...
I just drank some Nestle product this morning. Sans refrigerator, I'm using powdered milk for my tea. Next time, I'll try a competitor maybe. Or should I just switch back to beer in the mornings?
Any legal progress, Lu?

err... just how did this thread get moved into the Workshop? Friday's complete PR list from Mark had it as a member of Peer Review, and nobody has asked to move it anywhere else.
There appears to be some sibling thread, F48874?thread=142737, A634781 - The Nestle Boycott, dated 01/09/22 which was marked as 'unscouted' but cannot be accessed as it seems to be hidden.
What's the matter here please?

Now the server appears to have gone bananas

From what I see (dunno if scouts see things differently), the thread is still in PR. The other thread seems to have nothing in it, but is still Peer Review at the top...
