As I said to Tango, I hope those are the results you expected/wanted. smiley - biggrin I'm slightly curious about the "Resistant Materials" though. smiley - erm Are we talking art/craft paper wetting and fabric dyeing? Or is this a sub-section of engineering or electronics? I suppose it could be a euphemism for revolutionary or religious texts. smiley - silly

I see - it's just been renamed again. In my childhood: it was woodwork and metalwork. As a teacher: it was craft, design and technology.

"Design and Technology" covers everything from RM and electronics to Food Technology (what used to be called Home Economics, i belive) and Textiles (sewing).

They really have messed with the definitions then as well as with the content level and grading.

Post 12

I'm not sure it's so much the definitions, as the names attached to them. All the same subjects exist in much the same form as they did before, they are just called different things.

I'm not sure that makes sense, but there's nothing new there, so i'll post anyway.

My school has Technology with subsections of :
CDT (Craft Design Technology)
including Graphics, resistant materials
Textiles

Food Technology... which is basically cook one thing every term, and spend the rest of the time planning it... you think I'm joking. IM NOT

Yeah, well.

At GCSE level, i think Food Tech is exactly that, yes. Before GCSE we used to cook something every week, usually. We had 2 lessons a week, one for planning, one (double) for cooking.

PS Sorry, spook, we seem to have hijacked your journal...

It all adds to your cumulative "status" doesn't it, Spook. smiley - winkeye

When I was at secondary school, a rather restricted set of options applied in those areas:
1(a) woodwork + metalwork
1(b) domestic science [sic] ie cooking and nothing scientific about it!
2(a) technical drawing
2(b) needlework

No prizes for guessing which of each pair I took (though I can actually do the others too) and they didn't fit with my final, even more restrictive, exam options anyway. At primary school everyone did everything. My younger brother was quite keen on the (b) options but too scared of the macho peer group at secondary school to select them there.

When I was teaching in secondary school, CDT was basically those (a) options + plastics and went along with Art. The (b) options were presumably covered elsewhere. I was primarily teaching maths though. They had someone else who could just about cover the science but had no extra skills and they didn't need anyone in music which would have been another of my preferences.
