Hmm, maybe this will become a *very* long entry... or even a sort of *unofficial* university project
I'll have to find out if that's possible...

The middle school system in England is Primary of Year 1-5 (age 5 to 10), Middle/Intermeadiate Year 6-8 (age 10 to 13) Upper (also called Grammer in places, which comes from the old system with the 11-plus exams, which is old and confusing) Years 9-11 (13 to 16). This is a really stupid system because you change schools 1 year before the end of each key stage (except KS1), which means that SATs (completely differernt thing to the US ones, just the same name) are pretty much meaningless.
You should also find someone to tell you about the swiss school system (it may be the same as the german, i'm not sure), that really is a stupid system. You don't start school till 7 and you don't leave universtity till 24, IIRC. And because they take so long to do everything, they don't think a BA/BSc from the UK counts as anything, they only count MA/MSc as degrees, regardless of the fact that in the UK we just learn faster, not learn less.

Whoever is doing this article might consider presenting some of the data as a TABLE comparing countries school systems against actual age group to show where the different breaks occur side by side. The naming of years between systems was not consistent and would be somewhat confusing whereas the age of the child at each stage should indicate similar educational level. I wonder if the UK has had nearly as many systems as the rest of the world put together!

You've got two options, if you do decide to write up the entries:
(a) Write, and have all the entries subedited, in three weeks as an official university project. If you managed to write the entries in the next two weeks, I might well be able to help out there.
(b) If you don't make this deadline, and wanted to write multiple entries, I've heard that it should be possible to send them all through Peer Review, then, once they had each been picked, to send them all to the same sub, and to link them together. They would then all appear on the front page on the same day.

you can't have an official University project Rho as they stopped accepting new ones about a month ago.
you simply write up all the entries and overload peer review with them!

I'm a sub, so I'll ask them - sure we could get them done together...
I think I'd like to do lots of seperate ones and then one comparative?
Anyone wanting to contribute would be most welcome - I'll put something on Ask hootoo and see if we can get anywhere else!
Thanks guys
Lou

You're right!
I wonder if an exception could be made if we promised to have the entries ready on time?

We definitely could, if the project was allowed to go through!

well, i know they have enough projects for at least 3 weeks i think, since mine's going up in 2, adn will last a week. i'll contribute to this entry for sure, since it is well, being discussed and is evolving in my journal, so it would be wrong for me not to!
