ok then.
what i am telling people is that we will follow the rules of continuity so that we can have a fair, fun war (A351866 is the h2g2 laws of continuity, while A496091 was created to give the no controlloing another person's character rule in a battle). These laws are there like rules of a Just War, and it would not be fun or fair for you to continuously break them. if you want to have a nonsensical fight going on at the same time then we can also battle at F76412?thread=263011&latest=1 , a thread dedicated to nonsensical things, however, for the proper battle continuity needs to be in place.
also, to make things more far and continuity work better, i am telling everyone now only to battle at:
Thingites page - Terranic Army Declaration Of War at F63252?thread=313898&latest=1
Terranic Army Page - Thingite Counterattack! at F97320?thread=313909&latest=1
now, i consider these things to be completely fair, and by going by them we can all have a fun war.
now, what do you think?

Well I think you have a point but only so far.
Frankly, I was not aware of these rules of continuity no matter how long ago they may have been written. They are most certainly not h2g2 rules and I have never considered myself to be bound by them.
All of which points to really how our two organisations have grown to have such radically different understandings of how to operate in a virtual war.
I think what I want to impress above all else, is that this is how we have always done things...we're always inventing daft scenarios and playing them out - I'll give you two examples of this:
Ocassionaly I get taunted in a good natured by fellow Thingites for being the colour muave - this is just a running gag from something ages ago when I got locked in a washing machine set to 'spin' and somebody added in some purple towels.
Now you *could* argue from the point of continuity that a) unless somebody let me out of the machine, I'd still be trapped in there and b) since everybodys till thinks I'm mauve coloured (when I definately have black feathers! ) that I am somhow bound to be mauve. The key to this is, we really put no store by continuity nor every have done. If people still want to think of me as purple-coloured fine they can.
Second example: right before this little skirmish started: we were having a quite enjoyable run playing Wild wild West 'varmints and lawmen'..Sir Evil Roy was captured several times and each and everytime he slipped away and escaped.
Now this too would break your precious continuity laws - since he'd somehow have to post to the effect that he has a small blade consealed in his gloves to start sawing away the rope or something. - but he couldn't do that because his hands were tied together.
So we just don't bother with continuity Roy probably just put *slips away while no-ones looking*
We're I'm going with this obviously is this war starts and suddenly the TA's all expect us to conform to some sort of set of rules which we've never heard of and never played by - EVER! so what honestly were you expecting to happen?
but alright so fair enough we have different 'styles' if you want to put it like that. But continually to have Creachy and others bleating on about not playing fair and whatever Y writes in reply to X, X has to AGREE to it before it becomes set and thereby continuous. I mean come on! in the turnover of a quick moving thread that simply isn't plausable. nor is it really fun.
If this were a story we were creating I can see how that applies - but in post 185 FFM97320?thread=313909&skip=180&show=20#p4025295 - creachy again (sorry to single them out) asserts:
-------------------------------------------------------------
"your idea of chaos rule though is, no denying it now, inappropriate for the clash between our two armies. otherwise i could just plant 20 nukes in your base and set them off and say that the damage is irrepairable due to the irreversible radiation in the area."
-------------------------------------------------------------
but that is precisely obeying the rules of causality - what if in the very next post I wrote: "ah ha good job we moved out of that old rustbucket of a HQ into our new impenetrable battle fortress!"
It's just it's not serious and it doesn't play on rules. if in the next post somebody blows up my shiney new battle fortress i won't mind I'll pickk up my war and charge the front lines.
Nonsensical battle are all we've ever fought and you really should have expected that before declaring war on us (not that I hold declaring war against you, of course, I rather look on it as a good testament of character.) so simply expecting everyone to play by the rules you use was unrealistic.
Now onto what happens next. I got to say I'm not very much in favour of sticking to cauality at all if it's going to lead to the sort of exchanges between people like Creachy (sorry to use them as an example again but their posts kept catching my eye. ) and Avenging Washcloth

yes but Clive, in my declaration of war i said 'please follow the continuity wars at ...', so if there was a problem with that you should ahev said then.
even within our army we break continuity loads, however, there is one continuity rule that must be followed:
- you can't control someone else's character. for example, you can't say "i stap spook in the heart and he dies", you can only say "i stab spook in the heart"
now, how about we agree to that rule and agree to only fighting in the two threads i mentioned. how does that sound?

you did? oh sorry I must have missed it and I gurantee a load of other people would have done as well.
seems a fair compromise you can't control soemone elses character i.e comand what they do... but that doesn't stop anyone including your guys from breaking continuity.

spook Posted Sep 5, 2003
so, can you inform you guys in your camp of the two threads we will now only be fighting in, and we can carry on with this war!

Why on only 2 threads though? If we can agree to someone having one on one of them then we can "attack the base". Even if that's allowed, still no fighting on 3N because it takes so long to load the fight could be over before one person gets a single post out.

spook Posted Sep 5, 2003
look, you can post everywhere if you want, but if no-one is online to fight against you then don't just destroy the place and leave in their absence, enter the area then wait for a reply, otherwise it isn't a battle really.
