True. To be honest, I could have done without experiencing it myself, but you can't influence who yikeses a post of you - or even once my Post column. I quoted four lines from a very long song, and it was considered a copyright issue. Heck, we have Edited Guide entries which quote much more, one even quotes a whole song.

I always thought you could do a small portion of a song safely. That must have been upsetting. We have to deal with copyright issues at the library a lot. More so with movies than anything else. We have to buy special licenses even though we legally purchase them and aren't profiting in any way at all. The laws are crazy sometimes.

What upset me most was that whoever yikesed it didn't just post and point it out. I'd have removed two lines. I was lucky to get it back pretty soon, but often yikesed entries are hidden for ages, especially if yikesed on a Friday afternoon.

Oh, yes, I have also yikesed a post where a person appeared to be contemplating suicide. This is the proper thing to do. Posting to the Eds will be seen only when they get into the office, and not immediately then. Yikesed posts, on the other hand, are dealt with immediately, and the moderators will pass on suicide messages to someone who is available around the clock for all DNA subsites. That person will then use the Auntie Beeb account to say something encouraging.

This use of the yikes button isn't publicised as much as it should be. It's a handy feature.

I've never yikes-ed but I have had a whole thread yikes-ed and a ban imposed. I managed to get the ban removed, but the thread was never retrieved. The perpetrator/?s gets away with it but the episode can remain a blot on the character of an innocent researcher.
It's much easier to push the button than it is to undo the results of button pushing. The main problem is that it is very difficult to make your case when the basic evidence has gone.
When you get the requisite email it should contain a copy of the offending post and offer some reasoned explanation for its removal. In my view it should also reveal the name/?s of the button pushers.
To this day I still believe that I was 'hunted' by the pack.
