Little 's only been back at school two days and they think me may have chicken pox, so I've booked a doctor's appointment for him tomorrow. Apparently there have been several children off with it.
I have to take holiday at the end of this week (the time between the end of term and the beginning of the summer play school), so I may not be back in work for almost two weeks - making just under four weeks off on the trot!

Oh, I'm not worried about the chicken pox - I know it's harmless enough especially if it's caught at an early age. I am a bit confused, though. I thought he had had it when he was one. He fell out of bed and banged his head on the floor, so I took him to hospital in case on concussion. While he was there, I noticed the spots and mentioned it to the doctor. He told me it was chicken pox and that I needn't go to the doctor. All very fine and well. The pre-school wouldn't have him and I needed medical evidence to claim compassionate leave for the time I had off with him. I had to go to the doctor after all and get him to write to the hospital for evidence that he had had the chicken pox!

"Just hope for it to be the variant he gets resistance by.
Both 'Rose' and 'Waterrat' had this very light version, 'Rose' already twice.
(Hmm, I think I should study some more to get this as compressed as I would like to)
Slow posting. . .

Many years ago my Dad came home from hospital and brought shingles with him. I was run down from looking after him and the kids and working as well, and I caught it quite badly Completely exhausted. Both the boys got it too, but only mildly. It IS more serious if you are older, and you CAN get it more than once.
Oh, well, four weeks off on the trot isn't bad going is it, so long as you get paid
Take care,
Websailor

I'm not sure he has more spots now (in the morning). It did strike me that they may be bites, although his playgroup supervisor thought not. I have an appointment this morning so I'll get an 'official' view.
If he has it, yes I hope it gives him resistence too, Tit .
Websailor, I understand that one of the children at school had shingles - quite unusual in a child - it's more usually an adult affliction. And yes, I should get paid. Is it peak time for the pox? Holiday time? Pooh!
Fb - the school said he may have had German measles the first time - as I remember, the spots weren't very large - although it's a long time ago and my memory isn't that brilliant. All I do remember is that I brought him to our Under Fives' Safety Activity day (I should have been working at it). I believe you're not infectious by the time the spots show.
AR1 - there were a couple of days he was a bit 'all over the place' - his first couple of days on the ship. We put it down to excitement - it could have been that he was off-colour. Lots of to you too!

Seems the doctor isn't certain what it is either? He said it might be chicken pox, and I should keep him away from school for two to three days. So I may be able to take him back on Friday, or maybe nit, depending on whether the spots spread, or get better.
Little is disappointed he has to remain indoors. I said if the weather is nice, he might go out in the garden.

"Then is this a new variant? 'Rose' was also diagnosed twice as 'Maybe' and 'Probably' having them.
Or are we nowadays too aware of all these kinds of diseases?
'Mesologist' suggested some early resistance remaining from the mothers milk as why they get it more then once. "

Hi,
What a pity it was not confirmed. Still, fresh air and rest will do little good anyway.
Best wishes,

The odd thing is that I have some spots too, now. Not that many and they are hardly noticeable, but I have been feeling off colour over the past couple of days. I've put it down to my body readjusting to BST.
Interesting that some resistance may come through the mother's milk, Tit . He was breast fed for about 7 months, and the first time he had it, it wasn't a bad dose.
So, Websailor , both of us have probably benefitted from fresh air and rest.
Anyway, I went into work today, not having been in for almost three weeks, span as many plates as I could and I'm now off for another week. I must say, I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully, I'll do some decorating including painting my downstairs external window frames (which could really do with some TLC).

Sounds very much like you might have a touch of it too. I felt very tired and listless when I had it, so take care of yourself and take the opportunity to rest. Hope you haven't passed it on at work

I did wonder about that, Websailor . There's a pregnant woman at work - in her first trimester - I hope it's not harmful to the unborn! I did try to keep out of her way.
I've a whole week off work ahead of me now to recover and do house type things. Sorting, throwing away, decorating, that sort of thing.

The doctor prescribed calomine lotion, but I didn't get it, Websailor . The last time, I also went to my homeopath, he suggested I used a solution of bicarbonate of soda instead. I can't remember exactly what it was about the calomine lotion that he didn't like. Yes, I remember that too! It made me look

Websailor Posted Jul 21, 2004
I am re-discovering the benefits of bicarbonate of soda for so many things lately. I have been working towards getting rid of all chemicals in my house for years, and bicarb and white vinegar, lemon or salt will do most jobs. I just wish stores still sold the big packets of washing soda crystals we used to get years ago.
I wonder if Bicarb or washing soda would do as well in washing machines etc. as the very expensive Calgon. Seeing how bicarb removes limescale from round taps and in kettles I suspect it would.
I also wonder if the base of calomine is chalk? I am now curious and will investigate
Take care,

Yes, Websailor I have read that too. Good for you! What do you use to clean the floor with, though?
I know you can get packets of washing soda. I bought some fairly recently, but I can't remember where from. My packet was 1 kg. It may have been from Boots. On the cover it shows using it for clothes. I tried to use it to deal with a stain - I can't say it was successful - the stain was caused by washing whites with a green t-shirt. The shirts and socks are still grey!
