So, Tom's out of town this weekend, and will be back the day after tomorrow. Since he's the one that's more concerned about housework, the girls and I (mostly I) will be a bit busy tomorrow afternoon...
It's been kind of nice having the house to myself at night. Tom had been working the graveyard shift for about a year and a half, until last June, and it took me awhile to adjust to having someone else to respond to once the girls were in bed. Heck, since Notepad actually goes to sleep soon after going to bed now, I'm not having to deal with complaints from PaperKid that Notepad won't let her sleep when it's nearly 11 (they share a bedroom and, at the time, Notepad would not sleep in her own bed)! I'll be glad to have Tom back, though, and it will be even nicer since there aren't any big trips planned until after Christmas--we're going to head down to Sacramento and points further south--the girls' Aunt Z has never met Notepad, and hasn't seen PaperKid since we left Sacramento when PaperKid was 2 (we've been down that way once, but didn't get a chance to see Z). Tom's been invited to preach at a couple of churches while we're down that way, as well. And, since my birthday will be during the rip, I'm kind of hoping that Frieda will have finished with her current chicks and gone broody again by then--one of the folks I know from that chicken forum lives in a town very close to Sacramento, and I'd love to get some hatching eggs from one of the chicken breeds he has (very very unlikely to happen, but one can still hope)--in fact, I told Tom that if things *do* work out that way, those eggs are what I want for my birthday.

It all depends on hormone levels in a chicken (with my luck, she'll go broody while we're gone, and I won't know about it until we get home... Though, given the timing and the fact that she's showing no signs of being finished mothering this batch, she likely won't.)

How long do fresh out of the chicken eggs last? Presume not as long as fresh out of the supermarket ones?

"Fresh" from the supermarket eggs can be up to 8 weeks old--an egg farm has 30 days to get eggs to a store, and the store has 30 days to sell them (at least in the US--other countries may vary). The eggs sitting on my counter don't manage to get to be 30 days old, and we don't even eat many eggs (most of our eggs get sold--helps that the feed store is at the same end of town as the thrift store that has their clothes half off one day each week). Now, as far as fertile eggs and hatchability, you've got just under 2 weeks before viability drops off dramatically.
