We had a good weekendsmiley - biggrin

OK, I suppose I can tell you a bit more than thatsmiley - winkeye

We kept commenting on the way up how strange it was having no one in the back seat--not even the car seat (since we put it in Thomas and Patty's car, or else they could've gone nowhere all weekend) Arriving at our friends' house at around 8, we had solid proof that their kids, at least, were glad to see us--we were tackled through the car doorssmiley - laugh We visited a bit, and then went to bed rather early, for us, since Tom was going to be going with John to the men's breakfast the next morning, and we were informed that they'd gotten a rooster since we'd been up in December, with the chicken house being about 8 feet from the wall the bed was on. We were the first folks to sleep in the guest cottage since they got the chickens, so, since he couldn't be heard from the house, no one knew quite how annoying the rooster could be, so let them know if it's too bad, OK?

Cock-a-doodle-doooo! 4:45 amsmiley - groan

Cock-a-doodle-doooo!!!

Cock-a-doodle-doooo!!!!!!

I managed to snag some sleep between crows--after all, Faith's actually louder, and I don't have to do anything about the rooster. Tom, though, was up for the day with the first crow...

Got up for good at 9, got dressed, and headed to the house for food. Visited with Mary and with another friend of ours who was visiting (staying in the daughter's room) When Tom got back, he visited for a little, then went to take a nap to make up for the pre-dawn awakening.

I then helped(well, I did some stirring) Mary with the lemon meringue pie (Tom's favorite) and we visited some more and went to the store (Tom was still asleep, and I was thoroughly enjoying spending time with someone who could speak in intelligible sentences!)

After a bit more, I got to ride Murphy, who, since the shedding of his winter coat, has turned from a scruffy-looking chestnut to a stocky milk-chocolate-body-with-a-caramel-mane. Unfortunately, I afterwards learned that he hadn't been ridden since I rode him during the last visit, and the saddle slippage last time wasn't due to a bad cinch, but because they were advised of the wrong saddle size and type for Murph's body (basically a barrel with legs) when they got him. I did a good job staying in the saddle, though--up to the point that it turned upside down right before I was going to dismountsmiley - yikes I managed to slow my fall by grabbing at his mane, though, so I came out of it with just a sore butt, which was fine after standing for awhile. I'm still sore, but that's in the muscles used in regular riding, not soreness from the fall. Though I *do* have a series of bruises on the inside of my leg that I can't quite figure out why they'd be *there* and not where I landed...

Though most of the weekend was spent visiting with our hosts, and eating *very* well, we did spend some time togethersmiley - smiley The funny part is that Tom had decided not to bring the mixer et al since the weekend was supposed to be about us getting away together, but it was a good weekend anyway, despite that darn rooster! And swimming earplugs don't work very well as sound-eliminating earplugs, fyismiley - winkeye

I live in the London suburbs and one of our neighbours got a rooster, we were being woken up at 5am and knew it would get earlier. Luckily he saw reason and gave it away. Now he just has parrots which go all day sometimes from 7am till 11pm, and not forgetting his car alarm which went all night.smiley - laugh

I will celebrate if he moves!

Glad you enjoyed the countryside Amy!smiley - laugh

About ten years ago, my family went to Maui. We spent some time in a cottage in Hana, which is at the southern tip of the island. We were right next to a poultry farm, so we heard plenty of roosters crowingsmiley - headhurts.

They're going to get a pet carrier to put him into andput him in one of the outbuildings when folks stay in the cottage from now onsmiley - ok

Funny how different people focus on different things--had we told Patty about the 'rough dismount' she would've reaked, even with the evidence that no harm was donesmiley - laughIf she'd actually seen the fall, she would've been convnced I'd broken every bone in my body! Heck, she would've gotten nervous that I was getting on a 1400 pound animal... (Just a *bit* overprotective...)

Very dear Amy,

What a lovely weekend, I loved the story of the rooster and also your "fall" from the horse. apparently horses also "blow" up their stomachs if they do not want to be ridden, and then when someone is on them they let the air out, and then "hey presto" the rider has bitten the dust.

So glad that you did not hurst yourself, even if you were stiff.

How did Faith get on without her Mom and Dad?

With affection

She was a good girlsmiley - ok

Murph wasn't puffed up--I'd been riding for quite awhile, and I doubt any horse could hold their breath that longsmiley - winkeye With that particular saddle on him, the rider needs to stand in one stirrup to straighten the saddle out every few minutes, and I just didn't get on it fast enough *shrug*
