I love the ones on some of our freeway entry ramps, if you happen to use them as an exit..."Go Back. You Are Going The Wrong Way"...It seems obvious when a car is heading toward you at a speed in excess of 120Kmh.....

Freeway onramps/offramps? Pleeeeeease!
Yesterday I rode with someone who consistently
did the *opposite* of what I suggested, and kept
going North when we should have been going South
We ended up at Outback Steak House, which didn't have any
kangaroo meat on the menu.

That sounds like a serious case of false advertising, and justification of a class-action suit, Judge Judy or even whats-his-name-Brown !!! Or atleast an episode of Montel or Oprah. Unless, of course, there were no 'roos because they were having an internecine battle on Jerry Springer.
Apparently, I listen to my missus too much ...

Well, we originally intended to go to a Sunday Brunch at Narragansett beach, but the sun was strong and the crowds
would have been huge, and there might not have been any seats.
Anyway, we set off in the direction of a Chinese restaurant
way out in the boondocks, but there was a sign for Outback
Steakhouse just before an exit, so we took the exit going the *wrong* way, and drove five miles before being certain we were
headed in the wrong direction.
But there were plenty of seats, and the salads and desserts
were great.

Serendipity is a loverly thingie, isn't it?
Some years ago, I lived and worked in Nova Scotia. My parents came to visit, and the 4 of us toured a bit ... Fort Louisbourg, Lunenburg, the Graham Bell museum, yadda yadda. During one supper, we were offered a local white wine from the Yost Winery, and told that it was "just down the road". So the next day, driving along, we saw a silhouette of a wineglass on the roadside, "Yost - 6 Km" We went that way, and sure enough, after 6 Km, there was another silhouette cut-out, pointing another way ... "Yost - 9 Km"
8 or 9 sign-posts and we found a beautiful chalet winery and sampler room. It was a grand time, and my wife got to drive the rented car. Dad and I were a bit 'fuzzy'. And on the way out, we discovered the direct route brought us back to the same original highway in about 3 minutes. The signs were simply to help the unknowing to see some of the beautiful countryside.

The most extreme example of signage that I'm aware of is Wall Drug Store in the town of Wall, South Dakota. At one point there were more than 38,000 signs advertising it, all over the world, many of them planted by traveling servicemen. I remember going on a cross-country trip with my family in the late 1960s. Hundreds of miles before we hit the South Dakota border, we would start seing these sings about the prairie dogs that we would see when we got to Wall Drug. Sure enough, when we got there, there were some prairie dogs. However, the actual store was not a particularly big deal--much smaller than an average Sears, Roebuck. I understand that a chapel and a theater, and some other stuff have since added to its size. .
