Oh, my aching legs!

I walked roughly 7 miles today
I decided I'd walk down to pay the rent, as today's the last day to pay without it being late, and there hadn't been a rent check written. It's quite a hike, even if you don't think it's at 25th and I instead of 26th and I, and so pass right by the management company and have to double back some (Though in my defense, I was on the other side of a roundabout with lots of tall flowers planted in it, and dealing with a little girl that didn't want to be in the stroller anymore when I went by.)
Then, after I got home and at least had a chance to eat something (I'd been walking for 2 hours on a sandwich and juice...) and Faith had a nap, Tom called. He'd locked his keys in the church, could I meet him halfway so he could at least use my car key So I scooped Faith up, strapped her to me with that comfy carrier I mentioned a few journals ago (I thought Faith'd had too much of the stroller, so she'd just either be yelling or else I'd end up carrying her and pushing the stroller one-handed...) and off I went. Since Tom convinced me that I'd actually reached the halfway point when we met, I went with him back to the church, and got a ride home.
I never got out of breath though

Good on you, walking is such good exercise and a great way to tone.
Some years ago I used to walk 5 miles every morning to work, it was noted by my boyfriend of the time, how certain parts of anatomy were toning up very nicely!!

Good job that rarely happens!! I am in train for another long walk this Friday, should be at least 7 miles, its not bad once you get going. I used to regularly walk 22 miles, That will take a bit of practise, to do again!

I tend to confine my marathon walking to the shallow end of the swimming pool.
Ok, I know that sounds ridiculous... I was watching the little old ladies of age 70 and older do this every day and thought what kind of exercise is *that*?!
So I tried it. They weren't there the day I first tried it though, so I didn't realize how slowly they were all walking until one day when some of them were there walking at the same time I was, and here I was pushing through the water as fast as I could go (about 2-3 times as fast as they were walking), so it was really hard work.
Anyhow, the point I was trying to get to before I bored you all to death with the backstory is that one day another lady was there with her son and he asked me how far I was walking all together, and I had to tell him I had no idea. So he decided to time me, then estimate the distance based on the size of the pool and how long I walk total.
His estimate? About 2-1/2 miles, since I only walk about 15 minutes.
I know, not anywhere close to your 7 miles, but that water offers a lot more resistance than air, and the faster you walk, the more resistance it offers.
I do kinda wonder what the equivalent of that amount of effort might be on dry land.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's as much more effort as the difference in densities *shrug* So your 2.5 miles is probably lots farther than my 7 Then again, you're not pushing a stroller or have an extra... I don't know how much, 'cause we don't have a scale that works, but at the last appointment a couple months ago, she was 16 pounds... strapped on! Then again, you'd have more resistance in water than I would... *shuts up along that line before she gets *too* *

I'm quite certain I'm dragging around a great deal more extra "I don't know how much" than you are, baby, stroller and whatever else included.

Lady Scott Posted Apr 7, 2004
Oh trust me, it's "extra"!
You get to put the baby and other assorted paraphanelia down every now and then. I drag this with me wherever I go.
It wasn't *always* this way though - there was a time when I didn't have nearly so much to drag around... and a time when I had even more to drag around. So despite the fact that I feel ever so much better for not having to drag around nearly so much "extra", there's still too much.
So there.

But that's what I mean--my body's not used to the 'extra' because I don't carry it around constantly... Though my left arm would be the most likely to argue that

I remember those days all too well...
I often thought that I should have the kids surgically *re-attached* at the hip... would have been so much easier because both arms would have been free then.

'Cept that wouldn't help the 'lunge factor'... While I've the *skill* to eat one-handed (unless something needs cutting) I can't do so while holding Faith anymore Fortunately, the swing still works, and I've found another distraction that lasts even longer! (See F52382?thread=405808 )

I didn't realize they were making rolling eyes again!
I hope the ones she's playing with are newer ones - the old ones were recalled because the liquid in them turned out to be kerosene or some such deadly substance.

I don't know... Ottox sent it to me last spring... So maybe it's a newer one? *hides eye from Faith*

Lady Scott Posted Apr 8, 2004
I'm trying to remember exactly when they were recalled... it's been a while.
I know I'll ask the lady at the local toy store what she knows about them - I'm sure she had them in her stock at one time. I'll get back to you on it.
