About a month and a half ago, I tore one of my contacts. This was my last pair... So I could only see well out of one eye. And not really that well, because I needed a new prescription anyway...
It took about a month to remember to call to make an appointment, because I was just a bit busy, and would think about calling on the weekends, or around 9 pm... And it wasn't too bad--just annoying, and I lost what little depth perception I normally have (you try judging distances when one eye's mostly clear, and the other's blurry...) I finally got around to calling when the eyestrain headaches got too bad...
Now, last time I saw an eye doctor (about 2 years ago) I was told that glasses wouldn't do me much good (I was on a program that would pay for glasses, but not to have my eyes fitted with contacts) This time, I was told glasses would work, although my eyes are worse now... Anyway, the first chance I'll have to get contacts fitted will be October 1st, so I decided to get a pair of backup glasses, to cover me until then. I got the call today that they were ready, and I went to pick them up. I can actually see individual leaves on trees across the street!
I haven't had glasses for 11 years. I did remember that I wouldn't have as much peripheral vision as with contacts... But I keep catching sight of my frames out of the corner of my eyes, and turning to see what it is These frames are a bit smaller than what I'd been used to, too--it was only at the appointment 2 years ago that I was told that the smaller the frame, the thinner the lens... Not that these are real thin now, but they are thinner than an old pair of lenses I have kicking around somewhere, and I've had my prescription strengthened at least 4 times since then.
One disadvantage to being able to see--I ended up sweeping and mopping the bathroom floor, because I could see the hair on the floor...

I was very happy to get glasses too!
Faith will be trying to further inspect them I am sure.
*wonders where glasses are*

I remember when I first got eyeglasses and how amazed I was to be able to see leaves and brickwork and read the time off public clocks.

I still remember getting my..must've been second pair of glasses, since it was the house in Reno... Anyway, I still remember looking down and being amazed that the carpet had individual fibers from 'that far away' (we were only in that house from May-December, 1983) *looks down* By golly, so does this carpet!

When I was still growing (lenghtwise, that is...) I got new glasses every year - and even twice the year I finally caught up with the others of my age in length...
...and with every new pair of glasses came the sensation of being very high up, because the ground looked further away - probably because my glasses make things slightly smaller as well as clearer...
Once I took off my glasses and put them on a bed cover with a pattern of flowers, pulled a tight-necked jumper over my head - and then forgot on which end of the bed I had put my glasses! I ended up fumbling for them all over the bed - I'm blind as a without glasses, all I can see is a blur of colours and light and dark!

Its so frustrating when glasses go wrong isn't it? But think what fun you will have when Faith learns she can pull your new eyes off!!

I'm so disapointed, I've been to three or four optisions to get my eyes checked out but I have perfect vision, it's just not fair! I can't be a geek without needing glasses, it's just not fair!
good luck with yours Amy.

ever thought of buying theaterical glasses* or "one glass on a chain"**
may be you can become trendsetter!
* for non-knowers that are glasses without any strength to enhance poor sight.
** can not remeber the proper name.

You heard of the two monocles who got together and made a spectacle of themselves?
In UK one can buy very mild (0.5 dioptre) glasses at a lot of shops or markets for a pound or two. Don't try asking in an optician's tho. They will (reasonably) want to check your sight first.

I just had my eyeballs checked last Saturday. The prescription has increased very slightly.
The dr. said that if it was too strong, he'd decrease it for me. Well, that's all very nice, but I don't care for having headaches or being blind while waiting for new lenses just now.
I've decided to wait as long as I am allowed before getting new glasses.
I'll most likely just get them at Ian's optical place in England this summer.

Hi, Amy.
I've been wearing glasses since I was seven.
No contacts at all.
Now I have a pair of bifocals, and a pair of
reading/computer glasses. In an emergency, I
could drive with the second pair.

Doc--Don't be envious of us half-blind folk--for now, get some 0 prescription glasses. In about 20 years or so, you should be getting 'long arm syndrome' anyway
I've had some sort of eye correction (in the beginning glasses, then 11 years ago, contacts) since I was in 2nd grade (7 or 8) My first pair were pretty strong, too...
I don't see Faith pulling these off--I'll have contacts again in 2-3 weeks, and she won't have that much control over her arms yet After that, thse glasses will be for backup, though I can easily see me using then instead of putting my contacts in for the first feeding of the day--but she's pretty sleepy then, and goes back to sleep for awhile.
