For that matter, am I NUTS?!?

It's a goal not a target, Lady Scott.
In order to buy my computer, I had to sell
one of the mutual funds I owned. During the
year *after* I sold it, the fund went up
43%.

The price of computers has dropped so drastically since then - for a few hundred $$ you could get something that's light years beyond your current computer in power and memory capacity, which you probably spent thousands on back then.
Of course if you wait as long as possible, the ratio of price to power and memory may be even better by then.

I will keep my options open, of course.
Besides, there are at least four stores where I
could buy a new computer within three miles of
where I live.

Paul, if your computer actually runs reliably, without shutting itself down in the middle of doing something (and then telling you not to shut down improperly next time, when it's not *you* that shut it down) and you can step away from your machine for more than 10 minutes and be certain it'll work, and you can defrag the thing (I can't, not even in safe mode--won't go more than 85%, and that's after running defrag half a dozen times) then your computer's just old, not senile (Can you tell that I get just a wee bit frustrated with this machine?) And we can't afford a new one for I don't know how long (the price of a computer=a whole lotta diapers)
I think I know why I decided to plow through 3N--I really really need to laugh... I'd send Tom after a comedy at Blockbuster, but 1) the coupon expired and 2) last time he went, and asked what I wanted, and I requested a comedy, he came home with Gods and Generals, which is a very good movie, but far from a comedy... (It's the first movie of the trilogy that Glory's the second one of... Didn't know Glory was part of a trilogy until we saw Gods and Generals Point is, a film about the Civil War wasn't *quite* what I was expecting that night)

I get like that, sometimes I just want to relax with a sim or a cartoon, or Jack Dee. anything really.

"Glory" was a great film.
Even wars have their comic moments, though you
might have to look hard in order to find them.
Still, the makers of "Hogan's Heros" and "MASH>
managed to find enough moments to mount sustained series.
Okay, they were fictional moments, but still.....
I really don't have many complaints about my computer.
It's modest, largely because it has much to be modest about.
The letter "N" is mostly worn off on the keyboard, but
that's the only glitch. It still works as a letter,
which is the main point.
I'm not in the habit of working machines to death.
Being basically lazy, I respect anything that might
rebel from overwork.

Next computer we get's going to be a Mac. The *only* reason we got a pc is that, at the time, Tom was really into computer games, and there weren't many for Macs then... So we sold the little Mac we'd bought from a friend, and bought this machine...
We just can't afford anything new now--about the only way we'll get a new computer soon is if one of our friends upgrades to a new model Mac, and decides to be very generous with their old one...

Yes macs really are the "money no object" computer, but I'll wait until I make my first million before I get one (which if current trends continue will be my next lifetime )

Macs are THE computer, the only one that works to some degree of religability and style. sure the may not be many games, but once the market picks up both the price of them and the games will come down.

My brother and my sister and their spouses all have
Macs. They haven't figured out why I went against the
grain and got a Compaq.
