A Conversation for Talking Point: Bond, James Bond...

And the next Bond should be...

The fat American guy who played Wade and Whittaker is Joe Don Baker, who's hopefully best known for playing Colonel Darius Jedburgh in the TV series Edge of Darkness - the role that got him both of his Bond roles, one way and another.

Did someone already mention that Charles Gray also played two different key characters in Bond Movies? So did Maud Adams, too...

Scott Cohen, not that well known, played the wolf in Tenth Kingdom ( One of those straight to TV mini series ) something about those eyes. (plug the name into a search engine & find one of the many fan sites & you will see what I mean smiley - wow )

He's American, but then Barry Nelson, the first ever on screen Bond was American - in the original Casino Royale.

Brosnan is only contacted for four Bond movies...and he does not want to do any more.

Billy Zane (with hair) - he's suave, dashing, fit and fine as a fiddle

Two main problems with that though Ashley - he's very American and noon'es forgiven him for 'The Phantom' yet.

Mind oyu, I cannot think of any replacements for when Peirce moves on. I'd really like a (relative) unknown to play the role. That'd be fun.

As for my opinions of the other Bonds:
-Connery: THE Bond (first child syndrome - he'll always be seen as Bond)
-Lazenbury: Liked him as Bond but had to play against Telly Savalas as Blofeld. Ick!
-Moore: The Sleazy Bond - but could raise an eyebrow like no other.
-Dalton: The Misunderstood Bond. Also Action Bond. poor sod had to be Bond during the 80s. Give him better films than what he had, and he would have been excellent.
-Brosnan: The Almost-But-Not-Quite Good Bond. As has been said before - can't quite put my finger on it but he's not quite there. Possibly to do with the the fact that he murders the puns at the end of action sequences.

Could Chow Yun Fat be the next Bond? He's got the action pedigree, and he'd be more convincing than Roger Moore.

Jackie Chan?

Then the theme could be Kung Fu by Ash.

Altogether now '...come on Jackie Chan, oh oh oh oh...'

The Wizard of Brighton Pier

Sam Neill screen-tested for Bond way back around the time of The Living Daylights - his screen test's on the DVD, and it's pretty interesting. Not sure of him as Bond, though, plus he's probably getting on a bit. Jude Law is... not Bond. He's too cheekbone-y, and looks a bit... well... effeminate. Ewan McGregor could pull it off in a few years, once he's aged a bit. My own personal choice is Hugh Jackman - Wolverine from the X-Men films. Go on, look at him on the cover of Total Film this month. Imagine him without the wacky hair and wearing a tux and... hey presto, there's James Bond!

'parrently the living daylights is hard to get hold of, not sure that Sam Neill has given his permission for the footage to be used! mind you I have yet to go and look for it smiley - smiley

Nah, the Living Daylights DVD thing has nothing to do with the Sam Neill screnn test - see here for the true story:

I feel quite sorry for all those mugs who paid £££ for the Sam Neill screen test on the DVD, when it's going to be on every subsequent release anyway...

I sense a strong push in the direction of an Aussie Bond.

However I'd be inclined to let Clive Owen have a go (he was in Gosford Park and The Bourne Identity if you don't know the name). The ladies like him, he can certainly act, and I think he'd have an interesting take on the part.

I used to think Owen would be a good bet, but then I saw him in the BMW promo films* and changed my mind. He seems a bit too bland, plus his face is all wrong. Hugh Jackman's still my preferred contender for the role (even if his nose is a bit too pointy...) but I think that Brosnan has a good few films in him yet. Actually, it's pretty insulting to be talking about Brosnan's replacement when he's clearly up for at least two more films...

I know what you mean, PB's got at least a couple of years left in the role.

Time can make a big difference.

Everyone was backing Adrian Paul five years ago but where is he today? smiley - smiley

Sitting in the back of smoky bars saying, "Why yes, I was in Highlander."

I'm sorry but Adrian Paul, as much as I love him (which is not very much, I'm afraid) has the wrong voice for James Bond. And he can't do a decent accent to save his life.

Jude Law, while I'm being mean to celebrities I don't know, has always struck me as artificial-looking, which is why I suspect he was so good in A.I. which I haven't seen.

I'd support Clive Owen as a possible choice tho.
