Ideas for WHAT TO DO for Towel Day 2004
Mister Matty Started conversation Apr 13, 2004
Okay, folks, your glorified drinking-club needs you....
There's been some discussion on the TD2004 thread about what we should spend our (pre-pub) time doing. So dig out those event-guides, telephone Jack McConnell because any suggestions should be quickly tossed into the hat that is this thread.
Nearer the day, we'll take a vote from those who are coming.

Right then, here are a couple of suggestions what I thought up at the weekend. Feel free to agree or shoot down in flames as you will
If it's nice, we could take a piccanic to either the Meadows or the Botanic Gardens.
If it isn't, we can go to Laserquest or go bowling.
If it's kultcher yer after, there's always the Royal Museum which hosts the excellent Communicate! exhibition - and it's just round the road from Doctors

laserquest could be funny, although may start a small war between people from the east (the right side of the country) and people from the west (the smelly side) .

I've finally gotten round to arranging a swop of shifts - so I'll be available for the meet............. WHO SAID BOO?
Anyway if the idea of bowling is in the mix, I could make enquiries about getting a couple of lanes at the Murrayfield Indoor Sports Club. It's a small private club in Roseburn St near Murrayfield Stadium, 10-pin, Skittles, Snooker, Pool and cheap(ish) booze.
I'm not sure about how busy it is on Saturdays but I imagine if we're talking about late afternoon/early evening before meeting up again with the brewery tour squad then there's a good chance of getting in (especially with a distinguished member like me vouching for yooze drunks)

By the way, there's no giant Jenga - but as playing Skittles properly involves throwing yourself head-first along a polished wood floor, then I'm sure Wombie would feel right at home

SSSSHHHHHHH!!!!
We discovered early on that if we pretended to arrange some arty farty event prior to the the supposed evening drinking session, then groups elsewhere would feel obliged to do the same. It doesn't matter that our event nearly always gets cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances (no one can walk), it's the thought of other groups having to traipse round the local lottery-funded Museum of Earwax in response that means we have to suggest some ludicrous kultchirral thingy.
I propose a "Meet the Ancestors" tour of Greyfriars as a research project into Edimbra's ned community - bring your own bottle, but no carry outs.

That's fine for you to say!
But for me a tour of Greyfriars would be more like "Meet the Neighbours" than "Meet the Ancestors"

General suggestions for any meet...
Citrus club? cheap entry b4 11pm and usually drink promos and 80s music. Or another club if anyone knows a good laugh one.
Go early to bowling and drink till lanes available, I am sure enough could be drunk in pub so expensive drinks aren't guzzled down while waiting on lanes. Or even actually book lanes - Heaven forbid.
(Still want to go to the Real Mary kings Close and the Dungeons - but more suitable for a halloween event)
Would also like to go ice-skating but I know you won't like that either.
Book a place at the pits and have a game of 5 a side footy before going to the pub.
Go to the Comedy Club.
Do a sponsored 3 legged pub crawl for DNA's fave charities (yeah naff but who cares when you are pished)
Dry ski slopes. (no, I can't ski either)
A movie night - go to someones house and rent trashy horror, or comedy etc and have a movie theme night with take out food.
In the summer - go to seton sands for the day and take food, a footy and just chill out.
Laserquest (as mentioned already)
All activities naturally involved getting pished during/afterwards.
Wildman? What about the pool you mentioned? Is that a possibility? If not this time then some other?
So I take it we are just going to be sitting in the pub all day on Saturday?

I really want a daytime activity this time, so Porty Beach or Seton Sands would be a great idea - if we get the weather, of course....
