I set the first QI question in 2007 and I decided to do the same for 2012. (Lets hope they don't guess the answer on post#3 like they did that year)
No search engines, and three Klaxons.
Tell me what happened at Latitude 3 degrees 51 Minutes South, and 171 degrees 40 minutes West Longitude on Friday the 30th day of December 2011.

I think I know it as well, but I believe your coordinates are 10° too far North.

3 degrees ( not 13 degrees) South and 171 West

See I was going to go the other way and suggest this something happened over an open stretch of water but quite what that something might be. I am uncertain.
