Who will be celebrating the year 2012?
Where will they be having a party or two?
What are they celebrating?
What started it all off in the first place?
Beware my klaxons!!!!

A long expected party? That would be the first chapter of the Lord of the Rings, I believe.

That is where the quote comes from Geggs!!
Nothing to do with LOTR though.....
And it is not a klaxon!!!!!
But the subject of the QI is a long expected party!!!!

I would imagine then, that it's an anniversary of some kind, and a significantly numbered one.

Twenty-five years since The Princess Bride first came to our cinemas.
Well, *I'm* looking forward to celebrating.

Well who wouldn't be? Apart from the six-fingered man, of course.

I read something earlier about the Queen celebrating something next year, does it have anything to do with that?
QI - A Long Expected Party!
gandalfstwin OGGMSTKMBGSUIKWIATA Posted Mar 17, 2011
And we are off!!
Post 4 Geggs: Not an anniversary as such (not an annual celebration)
Not significantly numbered.
Post 5 Mol: Sorry, no!
Post 7 Ceba: Her Majesty, QEII? That gets a -5 I am afraid!

Who will be celebrating the year 2012? - I will.
Where will they be having a party or two? - at home, or at the pub.
What are they celebrating? - well, the year 2012, duh.
What started it all off in the first place? - I don't know, lots of people before me celebrating new year every year for centuries?
I have the strange feeling that I might have misunderstood the puzzle. And that I am uselessly exposing myself to klaxons for the sake of (poor) comedy

Well now, guesses:
The antiwhatsit, (that ancient Greek calculator)
The Difference Engine (Babbage)
The first programmable jobbie (Turing)
Who?
I'll go with: Alan Turing
Where?
Guess: Bletchley
Celebrating?
The first programmable electronic computer
What started it?
Enigma
... and there are 20 blue points?

Can I say it's a bit cruel to award klaxons for quite reasonable guesses like the Queen's diamond jubilee!
Turing's interesting, but this might also be the centenary of Scott's last expedition to the Antarctic.

>>celebrating the year 2012<<
Does that mean the beginning of the year, the end, or something in between?
>>a party or two<<
- Do we really mean one or two, or is it just a manner of speaking?
>>What and what<<
- No idea, yet.
Is it ok to ask around (colleagues, friends), or would that be cheating? (I would tell them g**gle's forbidden, of course).

In his defence Icy, it was an obvious answer, which is what klaxons are awarded for, how about Wooten Basset? They will become Wooten Basset i believe.

Ceba Posted Mar 18, 2011
Fallacies, wrong answers, most of the time with QI there the same thing, so it's easy to make that mistake.
QI - A Long Expected Party!
Ceba Posted Mar 18, 2011
Sorry for posting twice but that second Wooten Basset should be Royal Wooten Basset.

the obvious answer I see is almost certainly a Klaxon that's why I am not giving you a different spelling on post number 13.
I wonder what kind of olympic events they had in the Yucatan.
