Laska and Benji are people?
Did they do* something daring for the first time? (like the first flight above 100 km or something)
* or were they made to do, if they're not people

"Laika" isn't really a name, more a description. It just means "Barker", and was a breed of dog. She was really named "Kudrjawka".
(This I know because of a very strange exhibition in the Museum of Jurassic Technology, where they have an entire gallery dedicated to oil paintings of dogs involved in the Soviet space programme )
