I thought I'd have a go at setting one of these too, but mine's probably far too easy, cos I'm not fiendish like some people round here...
SQUIDINK ANGERSLASH

this might help or hinder others:
Music: Slash, Flea, Prince, Edge, Seal, Wurzel, possibly Ray and Ice.
Animals: Flea, Squid, Seal, Eel, turtle, Ray.
Necklines: Turtle, Sweetheart, Polo, Crew, Slash.
Ones I cant find a place for: Ink and Anger.
I'd put money on bassist/guitarists and necklines being two of the groups though.
Am I any closer to understanding this game?

That's so close I'm inclined to let you have it.
In my version I had SLASH with the necks, and TURTLE with the things that swim in the sea, but you're 95% there.
5 points each to Robyn (for doing all the work) and VIP (for spotting the vital swap)
