I'm reminded of one of Stephen Decater's legendary exploits. He was said to have once crossed the Atlantic in only 3 days, a truly incredible claim for the age of sail. If true, there is only one way he can possibly have done it, with an all new Constitution class frigate and the winds of a hurricane behind him.
Even Admiral Lord Nelson seemed a little awestruck and a little afraid in his report on the American action at Tripoli. The French and British response to that was to found a series of colonies on the north African Mediterranean seaboard.
