Benjamin Franklin was all or letting the Indians have guns, because he knew that bows and arrows were much more formidable. Alas, I think that archery is becoming a lost art. smiley - sadface

Speaking of bows and arrows, arrowroot flour is in the leading "Paleo flour" product on the market.

Obviously, it's a very silly market. here's why: "Paleo flour" is a blend of flours from four ingredients: coconuts, almonds, arrowroot, and tapioca.

The Paleo Diet assumes that if a caveman wouldn't have eaten a particular food, nether should you. Well, almonds are native to Central and Southwest Asia. Coconuts originated in Southeast Asia and southern India. These foods are currently grown in other areas as well, but they weren't growing outside their native areas when the cavemen walked the Earth. Therefore, the likelihood of a population of cavemen having access to both coconuts and almonds seems very low. I'm not saying that you, in 2018, can't enjoy mixes of these foods. Just don't tell me that eating them has anything to do with what a caveman (or cavewoman) would have done. You're on your own. Also, please don't tell me that the Paleo diet is likely to have any effect on your health or longevity. If you are more than 35 years old, you have already lived longer than the average person in the Stone Age. Why not declare victory and eat anything you want, rather than pursuing some romanticized (and probably faulty) ideal of Stone Age lifestyle. The 21st century is a *better* time to be alive than the Stone Age. Forgetting this is a big mistake.

Eat things in moderation, and try to get some variety. It doesn't need to be hard, you don't have to get the proportions just right. smiley - smiley

Most of the food-related heath problems are dose-dependent. The men who get prostate cancer are usually the ones who drank more than two cups of milk a day. Adding sugar to your diet doesn't have to be the kiss of death; you can be healthy adding up to 40 grams of sugar (about 200 calories) per day.

Meat and poultry? Little harm is likely if you don't eat more than 3 or 4 ounces of it per meal.

Saturated fat? You need some if you want healthy hormones.

Cholesterol? Don't panic. The cholesterol in eggs isn't likely to elevate your blood cholesterol. Anyway, most of your blood cholesterol is manufactured b your own liver. let me tel you a heartwarming story: A woman that I worked with was heavyset, with a very high cholesterol level. She enjoyed a donut every day. She lived to be 94, and was heavyset to the end. But she was active, very cheerful, and fond of making traditional Polish soups full of sausages, cabbage, beans, and potatoes.

Let's be cheerful and enjoy the good things of life. One of those good things is having friends like you. smiley - smiley
