Boston's official snowfall tally for the storm [which is named Juno] is about 22 inches so far. A bit more may fall by the end of the storm, but it's not the monster it might have been. The forecasters have conceded that the storm tracked further East than expected. There's a belt of much heavier snow 15 to 30 miles West of here, where totals equaled or exceeded 30 inches. My father in Bolton got 30 inches. Lunenburg, north of Bolton, got 33 inches. Auburn, to the South, got 32. My sister, in the Western part of the state, got 7 inches. New York City got abut 10. So, being in Central Massachusetts was not a good thing during this storm.

It may go below zero Fahrenheit tonight, so I will bundle up smiley - brr.

Had a mild monsoonal rain here yesterday, precipitation less than half what was expected, the cloud mass blowing over without dropping much rain.

Last I noticed, the jet stream was carrying the remainder in your general direction.

Its been unusually dry this year.

California is still in a drought.

There was a power outage of several hours.

At least I got to take a day off from watering the garden.

Eggplants, zuchini and Chinese cabbage and onion greens producing exuberantly, no tomatoes yet except the cherry tomato sized Siberian black (sparsely) and the pea sized native California black (exuberantly).

Chili pequin producing, but I'm putting the entire production to seed at the moment.

Replanting the areas lost to the freezing weather around the solstice.

"No sooner do I clear snow off the porch than the wind puts it right back there." [paulh]

Try a different approach: Put all your snow on the porch and wait for the wind to clear it off?

Our Mari-Rae (who used to be the lookout on the good ship "The Blood of the Zaphodistas") fears your storm will now drift to the East and unload the rest of it's smiley - snowball on England.
If this happens Juno will most likely continue eastwards to Denmark picking up a lot more smiley - snowball while it passes over the unseasonably warm North Sea.
So the worst case scenario is I will have to shovel smiley - snowball in a few days smiley - erm

Jwf, who hails from Nova Scotia, has often mentioned receiving storms after they pass over Boston. Anyway, since time immemorial fathers have been trying to get their children to share [with the possible exception of colds and flue smiley - winkeye], so my fellow Bostonians and I are happy to share our with the UK and Denmark and anyone else who gets in the way smiley - evilgrinsmiley - whistle

I was reading a recent book about a great flood that hits California -- the last time such a flood hit was in 1861. ITIWBS will not need to water his garden when it comes, but he might need to build an ark...

A flood of that magnitude, produced by flooding of the Colorado River, is not likely to happen again on account of creation of the major dams on the Colorado river.

There was a moment back in the 18th century when a flood of tbe character actually opened a riparian channel to the sea, with the result
that a Spanish ship exploring the channel ended up stranded in the desert when the flood subsided before they could escape.

There has been a flood producing an 8 foot/2.25 meter increase in the level of the Salton Sea since construction of Hoover Dam.

Without the dam, the basin might have flooded almost up to Palm Springs.

A swim from here to Palm Springs, ~40 miles/64 km, is quite a clip but I'm up to it, and I've got a boat.

I used to go swimming nights on the Salton Sea towing the boat with a swim harness.

That's not the direction the flood would come from, ITIWBS.
The book is called "Ark Storm." California gets huge rain storms form time to time. This would be the big one.
