Other observances? Perhaps all bars and clubs should serve a PGGB of some description, including a non-alcoholic variant.
Organised get togethers or meet-ups, fancy dress optional.
Things like that.
Send in photo's of your towel, and have a competition for best/worst, most interesting, most inventive (and most inventive use thereof), prizes of t-shirts from h2g2, something like that. Have you thought of speaking to Peta with regards to it?

I like the PGGB idea, B-17. I'll have to check with my local pub and see what they can whip up.
The idea for meets to be scheduled on Towel Day is a great one as well. I'll have to look into that...
Recruit everyone that you can, sea. I know of at least two people here at my workplace who will have their towels, and I'm spreading it to everyone else I can. The towels will be deafening soon.

To get it looking right, you would have to write it so that it did look backwards in your mirror. Not easy trust me, I've tried with writing things on my forehead before, when I was a kid.

Great suggestion Gw7en...
I thought that a black towel day in DNA's honour would be good, but it would probably a) be too awkward to find a black towel (alas, I have tried 
) b) probably be misinterpreted as some extremist political affiliation... so a general towel day would probly be more appropriate.
As for the PGGB... all good
If there hasn't already been one, there should be an H2G2 contest to see who can come up with the most accurate/aesthetically pleasing/tastefully adequate PGGB facsimile recipe (lots of big words! me so proud!)... the whole lemon-gold brick sensation thing

well, i think that fresh 7up would work... for the alcoholic variety you could add vodka or something (having no experience in alcohol, i don't know what would taste good) but honestly, the gold-brick-wrapped-in-a-lemon thing might apply... *shrug*
