Err..yes. But no, they are keeping the original cast. Originally they were thinking about an American team, but no. The closest you'll ever get to that is "Red Dwarf USA" which thankfully died a slow and painful death after two pilots were made...

I'm glad someone else thinks-the-whole-having-the-crew-back-thing is bad too. I don't think they should have Kochanski around either. One. because she's such a girl, and two. because the whole unrequited lurve thang worked much better when she was completely intangiable for Lister. Oh, and I found Claire Grogan marginally less annoying as well. Anyway, my favourite ever episode was the one where Lister and Rimmer are stranded, is it called 'Marooned'? And I do like the Smeg ups/outs tapes as well.

See, your idea of a classic rd episode is one where Lister & Rimmer are stuck and have nothing to do but talk. We don't need all this CGI and Fancy stuff. Another thing that pissed me off was Holly. True that he is the one and only holl (thought Hattie did a good job)
but last series he acted as if he couldn't even tell the time, the best hol was when he had just a bit of senility

Well, Norman Lovett is getting rather old now. And yes, the episode was called "Marooned" - Season III episode II. Oh - don't forget "Backwards"! Gosh, I haven't watched that recently. Hey! Am I the only one who believes that Chloe Annett is better than Clare Grogan? Admittedly I prefered her in Season VIII when she was almost nasty. By VIII she seemed to have a personality change or something and she was too nice!!! And they got rid of the Kochanski/Kryten relationship as well...

Actually though I have just remembered; I did like the whole have a happy period day joke. I'd think it was quite funny if someone did it for me.

Red Dwarf is and always will be the greatest show on television. All the series were good and I am looking forward to the movie. Anyone who says otherwise can take it up with me if they are brave enough.

Oh i'm brave enough but I agree with what you say, RD can still be a great show, but surey it will have to end eventually, maybe getting back to earth?

Blue Sky Posted Feb 10, 2000
The first hint that they were going to get back to earth was when the original title of the final episode of series 8 was titled....."Earth". As we now know, they were going to get back to earth at the end of series 8, to make way for the movie, but couldn't when the CGi effect sequence which they wanted proved to be too expensive to film. As Craig Charles has also claimed that there are loads of things which could be done on Earth as well, it is almost certain that they WILL get back to earth in the movie, but that does not symbolise the end of Red Dwarf. If it is successful then more movies will follow, though there will NEVER be another series made. Probably. Smeg knows.

the big thing I hated was the in the end of series 6 they got the time drive but still couldn't get back to earth because they didn't have a star drive to get there , but the first episode of seven they could, and did all that stuff with kennedy, a problem in itself, so the quesyion is, why didn't they go back to when they left and stay there, or to when the accident happened and prevent it?.

Blue Sky Posted Feb 17, 2000
Erm...well to answer that it is very simple. Firstly, at the end of Series 6 in "Out of Time" they had a timedrive which could only take them around in time. them from the future however had managed to obtain some device letting them travel to earth obviously, as they talk about having lunch with the Hitlers etc. At the beginning of 7 (in "Tikka to Ride") it said that during the time looping stuff "anolomies from both dimensions merged to cope with the paradox" so they got it as well....easy. Yes.

Shouldn't have asked really
DOo't watch the eighth series, though
Blue Sky Posted Feb 18, 2000
Yeah, well....the writers were never that keen on keeping continuity. Best thing is just to watch with an open mind. Or closed eyes.

Seagull's Lost Horizon Posted Feb 21, 2000
what! you mean there's continuity in red dwarf?.
I never liked the seventh series, the first time I watched it seemed to me that they were only shoecasing all their new effects.
and you're saying that givin one chance lister would rather go for a curry than prevent it all from happening?.
there's a few things that have dissapointed me about the last few series
DOo't watch the eighth series, though
Blue Sky Posted Feb 21, 2000
Yeah, well.... I do admit I did like season VII and parts of VIII. Each series was completely different in style and format so it won't always appeal to different audiences. In fact one of the things I like about Red Dwarf IS that almost every single series HAS been COMPLETELY different. Anyway...no more series to come, only the movie and thennnnnnnnnnaa. Finito. Or more movies, of course, though probably finito. Or something like that.

I was watching the re-runs on UK Gold last night:it was bodyswop and polymorph. I've never given it much thought before but why do Lister and Rimmer share quarters when they have that HUGE ship at their disposal? You'd at least have a seperate one next door or down the corridor. I'm ashamed to say that I was up half of last night thinking about it.

well if they did that it wouldn't be half as funny without them annoying at arguing!
