My (then) 15 year old daughter pointed out that there are some references to the Alien series in Red Dwarf..
Only a Human and a Cat survive, and the long tracking shots of the ship for a start,
If anyone's still out there..

Never noticed that. Haven't seen alien, but that's still interesting. But then there are parodies. The original red dwarf fanfare in the first and second series was meant to be a parody of 2001 a space odyssey, while Ace Rimmer and his original theme tune is a parody of Top Gun.

If they are references to Alien, it's quite ironic, because, as far as I can remember, no actual aliens are ever encountered, only beings created by, or evolved from, man.
Except Cat.
