You know, Leo? That amphibian guy with the blue bandana and swords? Wait, thats not right. Isn't he the guy that painted the Mona Lisa and other such pieces of art? Then again, there was that kid on growing pains who's first name was Leo. Never mind.

Bluebottle Posted Dec 17, 1999
I don't know who Leo is either... Can't be anyone famous, or I'd've heard of him. Leo DiCaprio who????????? Nah, sounds like a dustbinman.

Afgncaap5 Posted Dec 19, 1999
Wait, I know! Leo DiCaprio! That's that book written by that guy! You know, that guy who writes all those books, like Captain's Courageous, and The Jungle Book, and The Just So Stories! What was his name again? Kipling! Rudyard Kipling! I have to say, though, this was definitely one of Kiplings worst novels. His others are pretty good, though.

Bluebottle Posted Dec 23, 1999
Oh yeah - that's the one without any characterization. The best bit in it was Leo's long and tragic death as he was murdered by 12 billion people in a very long and drawn out way for 50 chapters with every gruesome detail recorded.

Didn't they end that book by disposing of his last known drop of blood by throwing it out to the sharks and putting his arm into an atom smasher to see if they could change it into something actually useful, but it actually caused the arm to mutate and go on a killing spree that was only ended with that depressing "TO BE CONTINUED" blurb? I really wanted to see that arm get hurled to the nearest convenient black hole, you know?
Hey, since we're on the subject, did we ever decide if sharks were fish whether they had salt or not?

You fella's need to expand the mind! Old Dougie's movie is at story to make you ask questions, Don't just look at the story line, there is more. Let take the movie Matrix. The story is nice but there is a part of it that makes you wonder 'What if?' Even if you don't get that, there is the old question:- There must be something MORE!!!
I learn't many moons ago never to accept the obvious. Have a nice day

Be wary of the obvious. I accept the obvious. But only after I've confirmed it. As for narrow minded, no, this is just our way of continuing conversations that have no point, yet we feel it should be made. At least, that's how I look at it. BTW, is there a sequal to Matrix in the works?

You can say "My, I've never seen a swimming pool do *THAT* before!" You can also say "Xyzzy! Plugh! Hello Sailor! Down With Plovers!" You can say that.

Anyone get drunk yesterday? BTW, I'm more than a survivor from the 'dark' ages of text adventures. Activision is still making Zork games, albeit they're high-tech graphics, 360 degree rotation, 3-d sound, etc. Anyway, all zorking aside, how many of you got drunk? Be honest, now.

I wasn't ;-( Had to DJ that night...
BTW : Activision ? My Cave was on a Texas Instruments minicomputer of some kind that was being used only for 'Test-purposes'...by the system-programming department....

Go to http://www.activision.com for details. Or, if you want to actually have fun, go to my user page and follow my link to the Zork Library. You can even sign a petition to get the next game going! BTW, didn't this article originally have something to de with something else? If I remember, we were debating ways to keep some one who's name escapes me for the moment from being Arthur Dent. Any way, this computer you're talking about. . . I'm assuming that you mean one of the early mainframe Zork games. Or are we talking about the original Adventure?

I'm sorry- I said it in advance- but I don't see what the fascination is. After three Zork games, I opted not to play any more. A little too much of the same thing. Obviously, this can be said of anything, and could be a reflection of the type of person I am; but it's not.

Well, I've always been described as fanatic. Besides, they can seem to be just the same old thing if you've only played, say, the original Zork Trilogy. Those three are basically the same theme. But the later games actually had story lines, etc. Of course, I may be jumping the gun here as I have no idea which games you were playing. Sorry in advance.

TowelMaster Posted Jan 6, 2000
In our case the game was just called 'CAVE'. It was text only so I/we drew up a 3-d map ourselves in order to find our way through the various mazes. I agree that most graphical games(even the simpler ones) start to bore me after a while. Not so with this one, it consisted of about 3 HUGE harddrives with data/software. Each must have held at least a few Megabytes.....
Of course this was around 1980 so it was pre-PC...

Okay, I've never heard of Cave. I have heard of Collosal Cave, however, which is another name for the original "Adventure". Were there dwarves that found you from time to time and started throwing knives and/or axes at you? Was there a pirate ever? Was one of the mazes so complicated that every single room had ten exits? If it did, it's probably Adventure.
Zork who?
Blue Sky Posted Jan 23, 2000
Sorry, nut I have to admit that I did not like playing Zork (I believe it was the first graphical one - Nemisis, probably) at all, because none of it was logical. Just plain guesswork. I prefer the Myst/Riven series...much more storyline and interesting stuff, but then, who am I to argue? Hey - anyone heard anything about the new H2G2 Game? Anyone?
