Ah well, here we are home again. We'll give Amsterdam the Grand Tour another time. Can't beat that bluDragon Airlines, though. Nothing mythical about their timetable. Dropped me right at the front door, though he seemed to scorch the grass a bit on take-off. The in-flight beer and brownies were a novel touch too.
Right, let's get some windows open, the place still smells a bit of paint. And I'll just boil a kettle while I look at the mail. Hey lookit this - here's a letter from cousin Norbert with a photo of him beside a flamingo in front of some ancestral pile....

oops, sorry about the scorched lawn...
Ahhhh, good to be home, isn't it?
*puts box of brownies on table*
Here, I brought some brownies to go with the tea. They are in honor of my recent conversion to the Church of the True Brownie [CotTB]. That is, if the Archbishop is still speaking to me...

ps it's nice to talk in the first person, too. being Queen is a lotta work.

Yeah, put yer feet up, loosen yer corset, or whatever it is you dragons wear, and enjoy this nice cup of perfectly normal tea with some of these excellent-looking brownies. I've yet to try brownies as a religious sacrament, should be interesting.
Nice an' peaceful here, isn't it? I think going to Amsterdam threw the paparazzi off the scent, you know. So it's a bit like Julia Roberts in the movie Notting Hill - nobody'd ever think there's royalty hiding out at no. 6 Perfectly Normal Street, Edinburgh.
Now, how do like this nice bunch of daffodils from the garden - don't you just love them in this royal blue vase on the coffee table?
*realises he's sounding a bit House and Garden, adopts deeper voice*
Of course, I keep the vase topped up with beer you know.

very nice arrangement. daffodils are/is one of my favorite flower[s]. actually most spring flowers are. actually spring in general is.
*hums*
tra-la! it's May! the Lovely month of May!
*hehehe*
and we remember what mayday was originally about, of course...

Hallooooo Greebo!!!!
~BIG HUGGLES~
Missed you! What have you been up to????
I thought of you yesterday cause I got a 'doughnut attack'. Have you heard of Krispy Kreme doughnuts? They are light, melt-in-your-mouth glazed doughnuts. They have just become available here in my part of the US and I can get 'em at the local grocery. But you hafta buy a dozen at a time...
er, there were 6 left when everyone else came home last night.

*wanders in, looking a bit apologetically*
Hi everyone! I may look a bit apologetically atm, but that's because I've given RL priority over HHGG for the last few bits, which is of course highly unauthorised. I've been a bad host, leaving you all in not the safest part of Amsterdam (I think we'd just about reached the beginning of the red light district) without so much as a survival donut from M&S.
I'm glad you've shown your usual readiness to act Spines (has anyone ever called you Spines, Spiny?). What's more, for the time being, it might be even more absence for me. Be on the lookout for sax tunes sounding over the wire, though- I'll be around.

SPINY (aka Ship's Cook) Posted Mar 24, 2000
Hey, Prez!
*gives Prez manly handshake instead of huggle*
Good to have you back! Nah, you weren't being a bad host, you were just being led astray. Don't get too involved with that RL stuff - it'll never catch on. But here on HHGG servers, we are immortal! Anyway, we'll have another go at Amsterdam when you've sorted your priorities out I'll be listening out for the sound of an ethereal saxophone in the meantime. And as for "Spines"...you're the first.
Now blu, erm... I know you use a Mac an' they're different an' all, but they surely don't have their own calendar? Because mine still says it's March. Sorry to disappoint and all. If it were May, I wouldn't be here because Moira and I will be off to Sicily for two weeks (got some family business to take care of...). So if we're having another VR trip, once we get our breath back of course, I'd vote for doing it soon. How's that li'l ol' cabin in da Yoop lookin' at the moment?

Great site, blu. The picture of the ghost of Mackinac bridge is particularly effective. Must be kinda foggy there right now!
Actually we're leap-frogging Spring here because I've just been told that this weekend we put our clocks forward for British Summer Time. Harumph. An hour less in bed!

Erm...not sure I get your drift there Greebz.
Ah well, you know it's spring when you have to get the moss out of your lawn and you kill half the grass doing it. But the compensation is it's been so mild here that plants are shooting up all over the place, even the Himalayan blue poppies. We lost some of them last year, which is a shame, because the person we bought the house from said they'd actually been brought back from a climbing expedition to the Himalayas. Of course we bought the house then and there. They're absolutely beautiful when they flower - the petals are almost translucent - but they're so delicate that they only last a few days and even heavy rain does for them. So it's good to see them coming up again.
Oh dear, can't believe I'm rambling on about plants...

Thank you Greebo. glad you enjoyed 'da yoop'.
We are also losing an hour this weekend. So I dont really understand the 'daylight savings' part. But it WILL be light an hour later at night, so I guess it's ok. And we get the hour back in october...
odd is right.

OH, Spiny, you ole softie, you.
rambling on about flowers. I knew you were my kinda guy. Wait till I start gardening in da yoop. There will probably be no stopping me. I see several guide articles there, too.
The webcams are cool, aren't they? It gets very foggy during seasonal changes. Either the water is cold and the air is warm, or vice versa. Makes for a lotta fog. Is it foggy in Scotland for the same reason????

SPINY (aka Ship's Cook) Posted Mar 30, 2000
Yep, I guess if that's what makes fog, that'll be why Edinburgh has so much of it. Except for the warm air part, which we almost never have. But the Firth of Forth, the river estuary that Edinburgh sits on, hasn't warmed up for years either, so I dunno really...
We inherited a really nice mature garden with the house, which we've been attempting to caretake. We've therefore had to teach ourselves gardening from the ground up (ah hah hah...), which has mostly resulted in failure of the lawn as I stubbornly refuse to accept that it WILL have moss in it. That's just the way the lawn wants it, whatever I think it should look like. Luckily the plants and flowers are hardier than that....
Tea, anyone?
