I'm not really here Posted Jan 11, 2001
I was a member years ago for a few years. I had a red membership card I think. I wonder if I still have it. I've definitly still got my 42 badge. And a t-shirt somewhere.

I use to be a member too. And I still have the membership card to prove it. I was one of the three regular members of the North East Local Group who used to slouch (and slump) around Newcastle during the mid-90's (so long ago...)
Actually, I think I still have a £7 credit voucher to spend on merchandise that I was sent after they ran out of Don't Panic t-shirts. I wonder where it went.

I was a ZZ9-er back in '85/86 when I was at Hatfield Poly (now Hertfordshire Uni). I remember the red membership cards when they were new, and I still have a "Don't Try To Outweird Me" button badge. I think my membership lapsed in 87, when I moved back to Lincoln, which is the back-end of nowhere and I couldn't get to slouches any more.

I haven't met up with any other ZZ9 members, probably because i'm lazy and can't be bothered to get to the slouches, but I might just do sometime, maybe.......

I, too, was a member from about 94-96 when Mark Simpson (Simo)(I think that was his name) was editor of Mostly Harmless before he went off to work on SFX. Someone else took over the editorship but I can't remember his name. i had two T-shirts, a towel, a 42 badge and a red membership card. I still use the name I use to write under for Mostly Harmless.

I had a look at his book a few months ago which is partly how I found the h2g2 site via ZZ9, the BBC and various obituaries.

It took me quite a while to recover. It resulted in me re-reading a lot of his work. POssibly something I should have done wuite a while ago. Supposedly a book containing unpublished material is going to be released but it won't be quite the same. Particularly as things like The Salmon of Doubt probably won't have an ending. Mind it worked for Kafka. Imagine the literature courses, etc. There's an Omnibus programme on BBC2 tomorrow about him. Perhaps I'll finally get round to reading Neil Gaiman's Don't Panic.

I saw the Omnibus programme too. It was slightly spooky seeing a h2g2 front page that was only on the other day. In a way I was a bit disappointed, I think it's because it could have been longer thought I'm not sure how. There was a tribute in last month's Dr Who magazine which was surprisingly good. I don't think there's been a mention in SFX though I could be wrong.

I'm a member of ZZ9 as of this morning (when I recieved my welcome pack).
I think it's sad that it took DNA's death before I joined ZZ9 or h2g2. But as the program and then h2g2 proved there are a lot of new h2g2 users who only joined after DNA's death. (I think about 100 people joined immediately after the program).

I've just got my welcome pack! So if there are any members out there (who live anywhere in the North Midlands especially) give me a shout!
I'd quite like to organise a slouch/picnic/get-together in the North (MH states they're crying out for them) so if you're interested please let me know, and perhaps we can sort something.

I'm Tigger, aka Claire Senior and I've put myself in H2G2 because I was appalled to find I wasn't in. Ho ho! Wasn't Zz9 grreat? Um... well... filled a gap in a few days of my life. Don't need it now I've found alcohol though...
