Surely the sheer fact that a large part of your lives revolve around avoiding these things means that you are more ruled by them than the rest of us? Plus I'm always wary of people who are afraid to 'lose conrtol'; do you not trust yourselves to drink in moderation? I don't smoke or sleep around but from time to time I do like to drink. I like to lose some of my inhibitions. There's plenty of time to be sober, most people need some variety!! Just because I like to drink on occasion doesn't render me unable to think in my every day life.

Personally my life doesn't revolve around avoiding these things. If someone offers me a drink or whatever I just don't take it. For me it's not so much a fear of losing control as not being willing to damage your body for something thats not much fun. Since I gave up drinking I've enjoyed myself a lot more and I do a lot of more crazy "uninhibited" things now than I did then. I don't think anyones said that drinking ruins your everyday thinking it's just something *I* am not interested in doing.

*giggles*
wow, do we really come off as people who see a beer and run screaming away?
no, it's not like that. our lives don't revolve around the avoidance of such things, rather our lives revolve around everything EXCEPT these things. or at least, that's how it is for me...

*screams because someone mentioned beer*
Quite. I don't, if you see what I mean, spend my life going around NOT drinking beer or whatever. I was at the pub with some friends on Friday - I simply had a Coke. No big deal - it really doesn't take any effort.
Also, this isn't so much about drinking occasionally - but about getting DRUNK, which is different.
Finally, there IS plenty of time to be sober - but being sober doesn't mean you can't be very silly and enjoy yourself! Or at least, I hope not, or I'm in trouble.

At least I don't spend a large part of my life avoiding sobriety! In fact I tend to be rather wild and impulsive and I don't think this tendency needs any kind of artificial boostage! I just don't drink along with other people when I'm being social, that's all. I am very happy and most of the time in a very good mood and I do lots and lots of things that I don't need alcohol to do! As for smoking, I just don't see the point!

We are all just naturally nice and chummy and mellow and jolly aren't we!

Hey I never said I smoked! I also don't spend most of my life avoiding sobreity. Say I go out on a Friday night and by the end of the evening I'm a bit tipsy I've been drunk 3 hours. Thats under 2% of my week!! (Hmm if we trust maths by a rampant alcoholic such as myself)
PS. I'm not trying to diss your ideals I just find playing devils advocate helps me understand things better. Besides we need more debate in here.

I don't mind about people who get drunk now and then. I used to get drunk a lot. I really like getting drunk in fact, I mean *really* drunk. I am rather an extremist and I usually tried to see how much I could drink and still remain conscious. I realised after a while that that wasn't very good for me. Other people will need to judge for themselves how much they can or should drink!

my sentiments exactly. but i hate it when people whine to me about how they have a hangover... i'm NOT the shoulder to cry on. i'm more likely to smack them upside the head and tell them that the hangover is a good arguement for the sXe philosophy.

Yeah, I will also try to encourage people who drink too much alcohol to drink less, or not at all. At the very least if you drink only water you save a lot of money! But pure water is in fact very beneficial to your health. People drink way too little water. Many people don't drink water in fact, they think that if they're thirsty they have to drink beer or coffee or soda or something like that. This is very bad for their kidneys and for the chemistry of their bodies. I will always encourage people to drink lots of pure water, and I will strive for educating people about the importance of water and to improve the quality of drinking water available to human communities. This is an approach from a different angle, but I still think it's important to be aware of.

Is the drinking water in your area high quality? We are lucky over here in Pietersburg, our tap water comes from the mountains to the east and it's very pure.
