Good article Meester Tee as I believe I have said previously. Just one thing though, Black Flag were almost the opposite of sxe weren't they? Other than that though good article.

Almost the opposite? What?
Do you mean as in violence, or what? They were certainly anti-drugs anti-smoking type people.

To reiterate my [moderated] point without slandering Hank Rollins. I know that he drinks and many of their songs (Six Pack etc.) are pro-drinking and thus not sXe.
Black Flag
shrinkwrapped Posted Mar 26, 2001
What? Surely Six Pack is ANTI drinking - unless I'm a bigger idiot than I thought. Henry Rollins is of course a big [self-moderated], but that's okay because Black Flag weren't THAT great. But at the time, I was sure they were sXe...
THIRST AND MISERABLE - Black Flag
thirsty and miserable
you drop to the floor
you drink 'til you can't
even see any more
thirsty and miserable
always wanting more
thirsty and miserable
always wanting more
my brother wants a ride
to the liquor store
you pity him
for what he wants it for
thirsty and miserable
always wanting more
thirsty and miserable
always wanting more
it's 1:30 and we're getting nervous
the store closes at 2
there's not enough
to last us

Hmm, I'm not sure what to think, really. I always thought he was being sarcastic - also, Rollins didn't write the lyrics, did he? Wasn't it the guitarist?

I thought you'd call me on that. I think that was sarcastic but I couldn't remember what was the one that ended "see if you can find the keys to your mums liquor cabinet." While looking for an answer I found a picture of Ian and Hank. Odd.

Could've been. The CD's right here.

Yes.
Six Pack DEFINATELY sounds sarcastic to me, but maybe Rollin's is c**p at expressing himself.

Sorry, that link doesn't appear to work. I'll remove the Black Flag reference from the entry, just in case.

It said "What do you get if you cross Black Flag with Pot? The last 9 Black Flag album" or something similar. Try cutting and pasting and putting www. in front of it. Anyway I'm now a co-researcher?
Black Flag
Comrade Rumble Posted Mar 26, 2001
Strike that don't put www. in front of it, just paste it as is.

Yup, that link worked. I read the page, but I can't tell if Black Flag started out sXe or not, or if they were during the 'Damaged' era. Other places have them listed as a straight edge band... how confusing.
Black Flag
Comrade Rumble Posted Mar 26, 2001
according to them "ginn...is a stoner" and he was a founding member of the band. I would assume they aren't sXe. I could be wrong.
Black Flag
shrinkwrapped Posted Mar 26, 2001
Yes, he may be NOW - but obviously the band has been through many stages. I'll ask Dan tomorrow, he's bound to know. Possibly. (He talks in maths and buzzes like a fridge).
Oop, sorry, I'm listening to Radiohead.

Have you REALLY. Well la-di-dah.
Using the powers of the AOL IMer, I've just spoken to a guy from that Black Flag review page, and he's very sure they weren't sXe. So that clears that up.
Guy: they did drugs
BigMadMrT: so stuff like "Six Pack" on Damaged, that wasn't ironic then?
BigMadMrT: were they sXe originally?
Guy: well, that probably WAS ironic, but i do know that greg ginn smoked alot of pot. they were never straight edge

I rock and you suck. Well not quite. But they weren't and I was right. Plus I've listened to the 'flag since 98 so there. Yeah I'm really old school
