h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well, having looked around I guess the Snug will have to do. Can't be doing with the other dives. Fire needs a good seeing to though, and I pride myself on my fire lighting abilities , strictly legit. of course

Didn't know this place existed but then I have only been here four and a half years. Still a newbie. Half expected it to be one of those cobweb, dust covered places that abound on h2g2 but pleased to see vague signs of recent life .. Hm, forgot I'm a can't do that any more.

*Sits in corner by fire* - ...So I didn't realise that seat was reserved. I wonder how long before LadyDig turns up? She'll sort the seating arrangements out that's for sure. *mumbles to self*.

I think we should pick numbers for the seats from my old hat, here. I'll number the seats, shall I? You can book a permanent place for three years by ordering 3 years worth of a given tipple, so you must keep the number tile in your pocket, as it may be asked for by a licensed official at any time.
You can recognise the officials by their rather handsome badges, designed by Lil and myself, or perhaps only by myself, as Lil hasn't yet been consulted.
Excuse me.. Returns, dishevelled - how does one become reshevelled? Or indeed, how does one look when hevelled? Where's that Titania when she's needed?

"It all depends on what you mean....." Remember Professor Joad? Christmas is what you make it. Some families centre it on their children, others on the church, others see it as a booze-up-get-wasted opportunity - or you might well fall into the "Bah, Humbug!" category. You?

If you have a Bah Humbug husband all the fun goes out of it and more people seem to hate it and want to get it over with. I must admit I looked forward to it more when the kids were young and we were working. The prospect of a long break coupled with endless food and drink was wonderful.

The shine has gone off it for me. Having said that it sometimes turns out better than expected.

I'm in the camp of getting very excited about Christmas - and having a one year old son gives me a good excuse to act like a child again.

This morning my son was very excitied to see his advent calendar (even though he doesn't like chocolate). He enjoyed opening the door (with his Mummy's help) and was determined to try to eat his chocolate. He found the idea of behind the door exciting, even though he spat the actual out.

Son? Bluebottle, you seriously need to write a journal to tell us of all the things that happened whil you where away from h2g2! Belated congratulations!

Oh, not a lot. Moved from Southampton to Leeds, (where I worked for a Bank but didn't get paid a bonus). Then moved back to the Isle of Wight and got married but got a job on the Mainland in Southampton (in the Bank of Scotland - most of my job was explaining to people that we weren't the Royal Bank of Scotland). So after a couple of years of commuting over from the Island to Southampton (getting up at 5am to start work at 9, and not getting home 'til 7:30pm) I sadly moved back to Southampton, and a year after that moved to Eastleigh (which is halfway between Southampton and Winchester) and now work for Southampton Solent University.

Dads are important, BB. I put at least half the worlds problems down to the fatherless children.

A hearty hear! hear! I'd put it higher than that, in fact. Thank the Lord my kids had a superdad, because their Mum left much to be desired. I didn't think so then, of course!!

Of course it is not always possible, but whenever it is, then most children benefit from having two parents. I worry what is to become of the feral kids around that seem to have only one overwhelmed parent. What kind of life is ahead of them? How are they to contribute?

Oh dear, that sounds like an oldy's lament!

Well if that's the case there is another here that agrees wholeheartedly 'Tis only common sense after all, but that has been banished it seems.
