Many people seem to think that Mr. P.N.Oak's story has the BBC's stamp of approval. But it is from the 'h2g2 section' of the BBC Website (which is a readers' contributions section) and there is a disclaimer which reads:
"Most of the content on this site is created by h2g2's Researchers, who are members of the public. The views expressed are theirs and unless specifically stated are not those of the BBC...."
The simplest argument against the Taj being a Hindu temple is that it doesn't look like a Hindu temple. It is a typically Islamic piece of architecture - a mausoleum. It is possible that there was a Hindu structure at the spot prior to the Taj being built. Shah Jahan might have chosen the spot for its excellent location, demolished the old building and built the mausoleum on it. It is usual to reuse parts of the old building which are valuable. But all this does not prove that the Taj (at least in its present form) was a Hindu temple!
If it was a Hindu temple, then it was certainly the most beautiful Hindu temple in the land, and much should have been written about it both before and after its conversion into the Taj Mahal. There would have been a furore among the Hindus of the kind witnessed after the destruction of the Somnath temple or the Ram Janmabhoomi temple (?) or the temple at Varanasi. The same foreign travellers (that the article mentions) should have written that they came to see the beautiful Hindu temple but it was being converted into a Muslim mausoleum. Their silence shows that this was not the case. I don't think Mr. P.N.Oak's piece of revisionist history carries any weight.

the only thing that's making me curious is that why have the doors been sealed? why can't the public see those rooms? is whatever said about lord shiva's statues true?
well, if it is not true then it's all good but then if it is not true then i don't think there should be any religious fights or anything because whatever happened has happened in the past. it's not that the muslims still do it in today's date.
all i want to say is that whether it's true or not i personally don't think there should be religious issues among the 2 religions on this issue as whatever happened happened in the past and one has no rights to punish someone whose ancestors did a sin.
