I must admit, as an Indian from India(there are other kinds), this is the first time I have heard this story. I was going to dismiss it completely only to note that the professer disputing the story of the Taj is not a Hindu Fundamentalist, but....an Englishman I presume? Personally, I do not agree with this story for the following reason: The current government in power in India is Hindu-Nationalist (lesser degree of fundamentalism) and also there is a significant following among the Hindu fundamentalists, and a story like this would have been something they could not have passed by!!!! I can still see the Government trying to supress this, as it would escalate tensions within India to absurd levels, however the fact that even the radical fundamentalists do not seem to be aware of this story nor has there been any mention of it anywhere except for here in h2g2, I am afraid that I do not agree with this alternate version, and feel the more commonly told story is the correct one, for no reason other than the serious accusation made in the above article would surely have come to light sooner based on the current atmosphere in India.

you should have learnt by now, as being an Indian, that politics is all about money! especially in India. First of all Taj Mahal is known as monument of love. the mainreason for the edifice to be worldknown is that it was built in the memory of Jahan in love for his wife...I dont htink that (if it is true) that more tourists would wisit Taj, in the long run if it is known that it was a Temple, which was by force made into the monument of love. There are many buildings that are more beatyful, just go to jaipur, but aren't known outside India at all...

So answer me, why would the griediest people in world (indian politicians) spend money on something that probably will lead to less revenues in the future???

I think you are so write deep17!
Its all about money, politics and favours.
What would they do with the truth?? Can't stuff their pockets with it! Can they?
Our politicians have long back forgotten to live on high morals as they used to be around the
independence days!
Spread the word! Let them not ignore it! It's our history! Our heritage!

Hi Tarun!

Historical facts have been twisted, and this has been proved by the few vigilant historians.
Hindus or not!
Read facts and figures. Its not about fundamentalism. Its not about religion now.
Its about money and politics. The Govt. does get a lot of profit from it and this can make the sales
go down. Why should they loose money?
Also, the Govt. in this loose democracy gives more favours and quotas to minorities instead of treating all as equals, and they probably don't want the hassle to go through this scandal of bringing up the truth.
First they abided by the wrong version now how can they say it otherwise? The Hindu fundamentalist Govt. also tried pleasing all the minorities! Votes and notes!

its simple -
let as many people, Hindu or not, know about it......

the FACT that a film is being made about the FALSE version of the TAJ MAHALS history goes to show that this is an attempt to cover up history and re-write the minds of hindus.....

http://www.stephen-knapp.com/was_the_taj_mahal_a_vedic_temple.htm

the above link also comes with photographic evidence.......

its not just the TAJ MAHAL that has been taken in this way but also the KAABA - where there is a SHIV LING......

http://www.geocities.com/jairama1/kaaba.htm

it would be stupid of the hindus to let this slip from under our feet but at the same time its a sensitive topic.....

we cannot blame the Muslims and the Islam of today cos of the actions of the past.......
