soooo sad

I went to the book store yestirday hoping to find a new Adams book and my joy at finding "The Salmon of Doubt" soon turned bitter sweet. I guess I have been living in a cave(thankfully it is not stinky) for the past year but I am very distressed to find that my favorite sci-fi writer has hitched a ride to the unknown. It might be because I am pregnant but, the more I read this last book and learn about the quality of his life, the more distressed I become. In an attempt to accept his death, I was hoping that by expressing my feelings, I would not be so sad. So far it has made me cry even more. I guess the only thing left to do is send this message out there and hope that someone is listening and understands.

Thank you and The Two towers rocks! As you will soon learn, the extended version is coming out in November and it looks as though it will be even better.

Hmmmmmm....
I know what you mean but I thought that The Salmon Of Doubt was a "smiling through the tears" kind of affair. Sure it was a bit of a scrabbled together mess but parts of it are so funny & his friends who contributed did so in the spirit of genuine friendship. Saying that, I am utterly convinced that Stephen Fry can save the day in any eventuality.
On the subject of soooooooo sad, however, I can only offer M.J Simpson's Hitchhiker : A Biography of Douglas Adams. If you haven't read this, please don't subject your wobbly pregnant hormones to it. I read it & was truly gutted. It reads like a text book. A factual timeline that betrays everything that DNA was. I know that MJ Simpson wrote it in an attempt to be honest but...siiiiiiiigh....he got the whole spirit of it wrong.
Anyhoo, so don't be sad. At least The Salmon Of Doubt was cobbled together by people who cared about DNA. They allowed us to sneak a look inside his thought processes. The scrappiness & finality of it all is hard to take but smile anyway & laugh at the funny bits, they were written to make us happy.

The previews for ROTK look impressive. Are you in England? Here in the USA we dont get to see it until December. The only movie premier we have to look forward to in September is the the last Matrix.

I hate waiting....wish I could see it now!
*whispers* apparently the village Hobbiton was based on a village in the North West of England....not "that" far from me, apparently.

I am grateful that we got one last look into what DNA was writing. It felt as if there was alot of love in that last book. Maybe the grieving process made me come off alittle morbid. However, I did laugh out loud at several points, I always do whenever I read his books. I guess, having a young daughter myself, I just wish he was going to be around to watch her grow.
On a more upbeat note, I have been trying to find a copy of "The Meaning of Liff". It has gone out of print so if you have any thoughts on how to find it or its sequil, I would be grateful.
Thank you for responding to my message. Have a lovely day!

That very well could be, being that the director is English. I am excited to see the last film as well. Did you get a chance to watch all of the featurettes? I love DVD!!! I can't wait til the extended version comes out. I don't think I'm going to be able to control myself from buying it the day it comes out! Speaking of movies-have you heard anything about the Hitch Hickers movie?
