You are both correct. I do know how to remove the s. Or, I can just highlight the whole thing, copy it into the bar at the top of the page, click, and go to the desired site.

before Google came along, there were half a dozen leading search engines, each with its own quirks. I'm not sure I would have wanted Google to be the main survivor, but what can I do? It exasperates me sometimes. I have to try three r four different combinations of search terms top find what I want. And even then, Google invariably shows me things I told it *not* to show me.

duckduckgo.com is my preferred alternative. It doesn't "curate" your search by tracking your previous searches and mining your data.
