Denmark offers to buy the USA

The Danish people are among the happiest people on the planet. We Americans are variable in our contentedness, with some even showing signs of contentiousness smiley - winkeye.

The effect of borrowing enough money to purchase the U.S. might not be good for Denmark, though smiley - sadface. They would be saddled with debt, possibly for thousands of years into the future.

Here's the real down point: America's National Debt would become their responsibility. Plus, there are bridges crumbling just about everywhere, and pollution.

Denmark's air and water pollution are very low
http://www.numbeo.com/pollution/country_result.jsp?country=Denmark

The U.S. is second only to China in its production of air pollutants.
http://ceasepollution.com/top-10-biggest-polluters-in-the-world/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7OewlYSK5AIVF1qGCh3iSQ4pEAAYASAAEgIYYvD_BwE

For water pollution, there's rather a lot of variability. Here are some U.S. cities that rank lowest in terms of clean water:
Jacksonville, FL
Omaha, NE
Reno, NV
Houston, TX
Riverside, CA
Las Vegas, NV
Pensacola, FL
http://www.bettermeetsreality.com/countries-cities-with-the-most-water-pollution-contamination-worst-clean-water-supplies/

So, I hope the deal doesn't go through. Denmark can keep its happy citizens and low levels of pollution. Americans who want to avoid polluted water can just skip the cities listed above.

Be happy! smiley - smiley
In any event, Denmark will have its hands full

smiley - dontpanic paulh, we'll do like one always does when one takes over another country, company or whatever: We'll let the employers pay. That would be the US inhabitants in this case. Once you pay as much tax for cars, gasoline, tobacco, booze and other goods as we do, the bill will soon be paid and you will all be as happy as we are.
(Our cars cost pretty much the same as yours, but in addition we pay 180 percent of the price in taxes. Gasoline costs about four times as much as yours. And similar goes for everything else.) smiley - winkeye

I don't doubt that Denmark would make some improvements. I don't think many people realize just how poor our government's balance sheet is, though smiley - rolleyes

Does that mean that you want to take it without paying for it?

My dear professor, waging war is not cheap. Taking over other countries comes at the expense of large armies and long supply chains. You're not going to be able to avoid having large numbers of soldiers get killed or wounded. Say a soldier is wounded at the age of 22, and lives to be 82. He has to be treated in veterans' hospitals for sixty years. Multiply that by millions of other wounded soldiers, and it's going to cost.

It would be far less expensive to have someone film scenes form all the other countries and install them in virtual-reality glasses. You can have the experience of enjoying other countries without having to go there. smiley - cool

Mr. Trump may have been inspired by history: In 1867, Russia sold the territory of Alaska to the U.S. for $7.2 million.

[ A mere 50 years later, the Americans had earned that amount back 100 times over. So Denmark might make the same deal by taking over the US as I described above smiley - winkeye ]

In 1917 Denmark sold the Virgin Islands to USA. Nothing to be proud of. We were among the first nations to abolish slavery yet we sold the inhabitants of the Virgin Islands along with their country smiley - erm

But Greenland is a sovereign nation with its own parliament. The island is part of our commonwealth but not ours to sell - just like you wouldn't expect the UK to sell Australia.

Most of it will be flooded, though. And the rest will most likely be quite barren for many generations smiley - erm
