"I often think that it's a good job we don't know what's ahead of us."
I think that but my surgeon I mean consultant, doesn't agree cos he said: 'If you continue to smoke you will be dead in 3 months but if you don't you have up to 5 years when serious intervention will be required, but we will deal with that closer to the time.'
Was he telling lies? The
Duke had the same as me so how come it is routine for a 90 year old but not for me?
I just can't work it out.
Another strange thing happened today; some workman turned up and started drilling holes in my walls and ceiling, and taking photo's I said; why are you doing that? and he never gave me a straight answer.

The expectation of remaining years might be less for a 90 year old than for someone your age. In any event, you've already lived *more* than five years, without any need of intervention. The drinks might be helping you.

PAL, on post 99, on personality changes, just the reverse happened with me, I went overnight from being a reckless libertine to being socially cautious and conservative. Also, I don't think I've had a manic episode since.

Some of us never have manic episodes, ITIWBS. Did you have many of those before the stroke? Pardon the nosy question, but were you on medication for them before? Did the docs take you off the meds afterwards?
[For what it's worth, I'm more of a depressive, and have had to be medicated for it. I've never had a stroke, and am intrigued by the idea that my moods could be changed by one....]

PaulH, in response to the questions, yes, yes and yes.
I'm currently using prozac, an anti-depressant.
