her royal higness mary, crown prince of denmark, gave birth to twins today: one girl and one boy.
the birth was remarkable: twins, one of each, natural birth, didn't even take 5 hours.
the chances of this are so slim the bookies here will have to pay up big time
they were so sure it would be two boys

which was first? Is this the first baby(s) for them?

the boy was first
this is their 3rd and 4th. they already have prince Christian (who is going to be heir to the throne after his father frederik) and princess isabella (who is number 2 in line, the new ones are numbers 3 and 4, of course)

ah, that seems to answer my question of if the girl came first would she have precedence, and it seems so.
Very modern.
But 4 children already! they've only been married 5 minutes!

i'm sorry to say the girl would NOT have have precedence. it's a disgrace
we would have to change the constitution first. this would need a referendum
this was being discussed when mary was pregnant the first time but the government refused to make a suggestion because that could involve the risk of other things in the constitution being changed as well and our right wing government does not want that

ah in that case, the first son is 3rd inline, the new twin son 4th, then the elder girl then the younger.
Not that I actually care about royal families outside of this kind of thing, it beggars belief in this day and age. But I've been reading about the "nobity" in Spain where the laws are being challenged by older daughters and they are all worried it will affect the royal family too.

I gave birth to sex tuplets, and yet I didn't get a letter from princess wotsit about anything.
I think this is a bit of the other side; not at all.

yay, seems i was misinformed - which i am happy to admit
apparently the law about who inherits the throne has indeed been altered so the oldest kid will inherit the throne, regardless of said kid's gender

Sextuplets are as rare as men giving birth.....

go Denmark!
As I said, not that I particularly care but I hope the UK can get on with changing the rules in time for the next lot of babies...

how could i miss/forget the changing of the law of succession (or whatever it may be called in english)?
the law of succession is a vital part of our constitution, but apparently, our right wing government found a very clever way to change the law without having to open up the called "opportunity to change the constitution alltogether"
the left wing was furios. it wanted a modernisation of the constitution badly, but it couldn't very well vote against a modernisation of the law of succesion
the referendum was held at the same day we elected the european legislature in june 2009. and of course a massive majority voted "yes" to the question: should the firstborn inherit the throne regardless of the childs gender?
i remember now that i pointed out back then that we now discriminate on grounds of age instead of grounds of gender
ps: i don't remember taking part in said election/referendum, i may have been out of town. another reason for my forgetfulness is i am not that interested in royalty and in principle i think we should abolish it.
but there are many other problems far more worthy of our interest, so who gives a fetid dingo's kidneys, i sure as don't

I was all set for correcting you - even found the new law - but you'd put yourself back on the right path
