Mormor is very old, though, and no longer gets out of bed, and eats and drinks very little.

I visited today, with my mother, and Mormor was very weak. She lies very still all the time, and needs help with everything. She had a little sip of water, but nothing else while we were there.

Mamma put up advent candles and holiday tablecloths. It was hard to tell if Mormor appreciated it, but I think so.

I sat with Mormors hand in mine for a long time, she liked that. I said how I remembered the hand cream she always had in the kitchen, and how soft hands she always has had. She smiled. She also smiled when I told her how much I care for her, and about the good times I've had when I was little, visiting her.

She spoke only a few words for the whole visit, and mostly had her eyes closed. Her mouth is very dry, which makes it difficult for her. I am sad to day, I feel she probably won't see Christmas.

I went last night too. She is still weaker.
Only when the nurses try to give her water or food, or even clean her mouth, she will say a clear and forceful "No!", otherwise, not a word.
She doesn't open her eyes much.
Although, she had a good grip when I held her hand, and when I said goodbye, she looked straight at me, really clearly.

I think it was Goodbye, and not a See you later. Who can tell? I tell myself that she knew it was Goodbye too.

It's very clear that she has decided to stop, since she will close her mouth hard when given food or water. Her children have agreed that giving her fluid and nourishment in IV will not give her back a good life, only prolong the dying process. It's hard, but the right decision. And it's in line with what Mormor shows us.

That's sad Milla, but it sounds like she knows precisely what she is doing and is ready to go.

Sad for those left behind but a happy release and a good decision from the family. I know someone whose life was made a misery by family trying to prolong it.

smiley - hug Sounds like you have good memories to hold in the future.

The funeral was yesterday. Most of the relatives came, and it was a nice ceremony. The vicar made a nice job, speaking kindly in general terms, since he probably didn't know her very well. My own sweet Peculiar Pepe sang Bridge over Troubled water, and it was beautiful.

Mormor's grave is just outside the church, and when the casket was lowered, we all threw our little smiley - rose bouquets and said our final good bye.

Between ceremony and lunch, there was a gap, so we got to talk to each other, which was very nice. Good to see so many cousins that I haven't met in years. Some of their children too. Still, many spouses and cousins couldn't make it. I think we would have been towards 60 persons if they all came. 31 was good, though.
