A question for you...

Always the one to ask intriguing questions, I have one for the Musicians Guild. You see, my friend and I have this argument going on, and its been going on for some time. I say that the best music to listen to when driving is Classic Rock...nothin better than a little CCR on the road But he says Heavy Metal. Help me out here fellas...what do you listen to in your car???

I'm on your side, Apollo. Rock is the best way to go for me. Heavy metal is great for listening to at home or in concert, but it becomes a drone that I tend to ignore when I'm driving. A good rock song, though, will make me sing along and/or drive faster for no logical reason.
BTW, is there a keeper of ex-boyfriends around? I'd like to give mine away.

I don't listen to either classic rock or heavy metal in the car. I listen to Baroque orchestral. But I might be able to choose between them. An important factor when listening to music in the car is that the music is all more or less the same volume. There is so much background noise that you have to have the volume turned up quite high to hear the quiet bits. You will be blown out of it on the loud bits. So a good type of music would be one that is all the same volume. Classic rock fits the bill better than heavy metal. This is also the reason I choose Baroque orchestral rather than 20th Century Romantic while in the car.

And, Fragilis, if you gave your bf away...you would then fall under the ex-girlfriend category, right?

I agree that this would be a great thread for 'Ask h2g2'
But give us a link if you post there, so we can check it out too.

I know it's late to join, Classic Rock gets my vote every time. Freebird is what your car stereo was made for.

heh, actually my radio has lately been on the hard rock station. thats pretty recent though and it is more accustomed to what you might call "alternative" Ive also had an occasion to use the oldies station. I dont know exactly where "clasic rock" fits but oldies im talkin about are from like the 50's. When I hear "classic rock" I think of heavy stuff from the 70's like Hendrix.

Fragilis - h2g2 Cured My Tabular Obsession Posted May 22, 2001
I would say that 70s-era hard rock is somewhere between classic rock and heavy metal. Where between exactly, I'm not sure....

Two things recently played in my car...
Mozart's sonata for two pianos
The Gingerbread Tree (search for it on Google - my review comes out on top! - then click on the cloven-hoofed tree...)
I wish I had a recording of the Lynyrd Skynyrd (how the **** do you spell that?) version of Suffragette City we played in Barry's hall one day...
