Bagpuss

I'm trying to make an important decision at the moment. You may recall that my Wii was stolen back before Christmas, leaving me with lots of games and no console.

I could buy another Wii, but I've never really had lots of people playing on mine - that seems to happen at other houses - and I think I'd like to try something else, trading the games in. A DS is tempting, but then I've got a shiny new PC that plays games, so I might get a controller of some description for that. There's one shop that sells DVDs as well as games, so I can trade the games in there and buy boxsets.

Would there be DVDs in the boxsets?

That's the idea. I need the last two series of The Wire, series two of Deadwood and probably some others I'll notice.

That sounds like a great idea. smiley - ok

I'm off to town now, so I'll see what I manage to get.

I would suggest some DVD titles, but they would be extremely weird....

I can't say that I play on mine a lot. I'd miss the Wii Fit, but nothing else, to be honest (and I could always just get a pair of scales and some graph paper smiley - silly).

You can always get another later if you really need it - pre-owned is the way forward!

Hey, Bagpuss!
Here's a suggestion, if you want to replace your Wii gaming system for something more versatile.
Buy a PS3.
Not only do you get a great gaming console with a phenomenal array of games in multiple genres, it also doubles as a 1080p HD Blu-Ray movie player, and it handles audio CDs. Sure, and Xbox has slightly better graphics and some "cooler" games, but you'd have to buy a Blu-Ray player as an add-on. If you want, you can even load MSWindows (or other operating system) to make it function similar to a desktop computer.

Another interesting feature for the PS3 is it's ease of link to the internet for multi-player games. It's built-in Bluetooth technology makes it a breeze to link-in the wireless controllers available, and even linking in a cellphone earpiece takes only moments. If you buy a PS3 Remote, it handles all the functions of the Blu-Ray player, plus additional navigation controls. Using the PS3 directly on the internet is a bit clunky, unless you buy the Keyboard attachment for the Controller.
smiley - cool

Are Sony paying you, B4? Actually the main thing I'm interested in on the PS3 is Heavy Rain, but that doesn't justify buying a whole console.

Anyway, I've spent my trade-in voucher on DVDs. I now have the complete Black Books, IT Crowd and Deadwood, I've almost got all of The Wire and I picked up the start of Battlestar Galactica.

It sounds as though you're well on your way to having what you want, Bagpuss. smiley - ok

Pretty much. I still have £5 in store credit as well. I'm still hoping to get a controller for PC gaming, but they seem hard to come by.

Not bad is it? And I still have £5 of store credit. I think I may have to go elsewhere for a PC controller though - they don't seem to turn up much second hand.

Do people like them so much that they can't bear to part with them?

Dunno. I suspect that there's nothing particularly better about new ones so people don't feel the need to replace them.

Sometimes the new versions of things are *worse* than the older ones. smiley - sadface

Yeah, and the thing with PC gaming is that your old controller should still be fine if you upgrade or replace your PC. I may have to buy a new one, but even those are hard to find.
