righty. Well, in that case, you can be first / principal trombone. Welcome to the club. You're the first member of the brass section. (Peter the french horn doesn't consider himself part of the brass section, or at least he didn't last time I talked to him in the middle of our last orchestra rehearsal)... I'll go and add you to the list.

Percussion

Post 23

Gag Halfrunt

Well... there are usually no rules In the Perc. Section, Ususally the person Who has been there the longest (or the biggest) gets the Timpani, (or any solo) then everyone else gets out the music, and they all fight over the rest of the music. (i.e. the smallest gets the triangle, the biggest gets to play snare drum,) is that an answer?

Well, Xlophones for now

French horns aren't really proper brass - for one thing they show some kind of consideration for the rest of the orchestra by pointing their bells away from everyone, using their hands to muffle the noise. smiley - smiley And they appear to have infiltrated many otherwise brass-free orchestral configurations.

Anyway, thanks for letting me in! smiley - smiley Where do we rehearse?

But the french horns have the Percussion section behind them?

Rehearse? We don't rehearse!

MyBrainHurts (Muse of bows and strings, principal viola of the h2g2 orchestra)

Of course we don't rehearse, since we are
a) perfect
b) not complete
We should try and get a few more violins and celli. Why is it that there are so many wind instrument players and so few strings? And, can we arrange it such that the viola section does not sit in front of the trombones or trumpets? Any other section will be fine.

Fragilis - h2g2 Cured My Tabular Obsession

String players are always in higher demand in the US, because junior high and high school bands don't include stringed instruments. This is not to say that our woodwind and brass players are coming to you at the high school playing level, but probably many of them were introduced to music this way. smiley - smiley

Well, as far as I have seen so far, quite a few h2g2 members come from Great Britain, and from continental Europe, too. If I am not mistaken, all strings at this point are. So, with any luck, there will be a few others around.

Can anyone give me an a'?

Ooooo, Can I join?

Thomas

I wanna join also! Is it possible to be on two instruments? After all, I play two in the High School Band/Orchestra which I play in now.

Primarily, I've noticed no slot for Baritone. For shame! I've noticed not many people know of/have heard of/like the baritone, but I am in fact very very fond of it, and actually ENJOY practicing with it. If you don't want to add a Btone section...I'll understand. But if you add one, I'd like to be it.

Secondly, I'd like to offer my skills as a trumpeteer. I've played it for about four or so years and also enjoy it very much.

You decide what you want/need, and I'll be more than happy to join your orchestra.

Also, if you decide to let me join, just put "Thomas" as my name and skip all the rest of that stuff.

Thanks again.

Ack.. now lots of people want to join. I won't add you all now, because I'm about to go off into Oxford, but I'll try and do it this evening.

Prod me if I don't do it, cos I'm lazy.

If we don't rehearse, what were you talking about when you said "our last orchestra rehearsal" a few messages ago? smiley - smiley

Amy: ear-deep in novels, poetics, and historical documents.

Hi, I'm yet another flute player and have been for years... smiley - smiley Can I join as like 4th flute? Or as alto flute or something (since they all are essentially the same instrument).

This'd be quite cool if we ever could get a whole ensemble together in RL. smiley - smiley

Alrighty.

It would. But it's unlikely.

Well, since I was refering to Another person and I, I meant OUR orchestra, which is another orchestra. ONe that rehearses.

Ok, trumpet added, and third flute added... we don't have any thirds, so you can't be a fourth. smiley - smiley

violin

Post 37

Queen Ju-Ju

I can play the violin, if that's any use to anyone? I could lead the seconds cos i am quite good (even though my G-string always snaps....)

On behalf of the whole orchestra (me being the leader): Ooo Err!

Post 39

njan (afh)

Actually, Gag, we in the wind see the principal violin as only a figurehead of the orchestra, since the wind are OBVIOUSLY the most important. Any group decision made for the orchestra is, of course, made by the clarinets... *evil grin*

Sure, I'll add you to the page.

Don't even go there! If there is a place where there should be no conflict between the strings and the winds, it's here, isn't it? Call me a feebleminded stringplayer, but remind you, the viola section is the living, beating heart of the orchestra. We hold peace, we offer good companionship, but don't make us angry. Noo, siree, you wouldn't want that.

Gag, don't overdo it. I guess you have a couple of G-strings in storage for Queen Ju-Ju, don't you? Ooo, eerrrr.
