If anyone is interested in joining the jazz band for the sweetly perfumed cafe, please sign up here and include the instrument you play so we can try to see what types of charts are available. So far we have Pierce the Pirate on Bouzouki, and myself on drums. Don't hesitate to join in on the fun.

I'd offer to be the bass player, but you know I have never got the hang of jazz. What are our duties?

Well, we just occasionally get the stage at the cafe (once a week), and play our hearts out. That's just my guess. Actually I have no idea. I was just told to play, but I have no band to play with. Do join it. A bassist who hasn't got the feel of jazz is better than no bassist at all...
But I'll try to find out what we really have to do.

Splendid, I'll consider myself joined then. I'm not good at jazz, it's true, but I'm excellent at faking...

Good to have you in the band.
You'll get the hang of it in no time. Just remember to swing the eighth notes and you will be faking sounding jazzy as good as ever.
There still remains many more vacant spots to be filled, so don't be follishly shy, and join in on the fun.

I can play piano, clarinet or guitar. All can be jazzy instruments. I'd prefer to be a guitarist but I'll do one of the others if you need/want me to (it is your band after all). I like jazz and could spice it up with a rockier feel sometimes.

You could play whatever instrument you like, though I have a feeling we could do some really great things with the piano. Clarinet could be kinda cool. We could probably do some great Benny Goodman charts featuring you, if we get some horns to join in as well. Now that I think about it, we don't have to be subject to only light jazz and lounge music, if the band gets big enough, it would be great if we would do some Big Band swing, and of course the occasional rock funk out would be neccessary...
Yeah, we'd love to have you in the band. Sounds like you know what you're doing and that will make us sound all the better.

I'm not much of a jazz player myself. But I think this is a very noble (and fun) idea. I've added a blurb to the Guild's main page about your search for players, Yossarian.
Best of luck to you all! Do pop back and let me know how things go. If your jazz band gets a name or develops its own page at h2g2, please let me know so I can update the rest of the members.

Yeah we need to think of a name and are we going to have special outfits or just tuxedos or are we just going to be dead casual?

It depends on what you all would feel most comfortable wearing, really.
And as far as the band name goes, I've got a few ideas, but I'm not going to make anything definate until I hear what the rest of the band members have to say about it, including yourself of course.
Speaking of those other members, so far we've got Pierce the Pirate who plays the bouzouki, Solnushka who plays the bass, you on the piano, clarinet, and guitar, Bumblebee who plays the woolen sock filled saxophone, and One-Eye who can 'sing.'
I personally like the name, Boppy Headcase and the Laid Back Loafers, or, The Revenge of Peregrine Xavier Monkfish III.

We should set up our own jazz bar. If you go on proper jazz group names shouldn't it be (band leaders name) and the (bands name).

Exactly! What type of club should we set up (if we set ine up at all), an intimate little jazz bar or a big extravagant Vegas style one complete with a casino?

I think it would definately have to be a little cozy one, with a lot of candles, a regular bear with a beard in control of the taps and perhaps brickwalls with artsy stuff painted right on the surface...?
Kinda think Vegas and jazz are a bit incompatible...

You're probably right. What should we call it and who should manage it?

Hey, that's a great idea!
I sleep for eight hours and wake up to find cool progress not neccessarily done by me at all, but by my bandmates. Wonderful! Great! Hoopy...
Anyway, we could find anyone, really, to manage the club. They will have to be someone who will actually do the work, but there are a lot of great people out there (in here), and this would be an oppurtunity for them to become better known if they already aren't.
I'm cool with those, 'Yossarian and the...' names. I personally thought the hoopy hoopsters one had potential.
That being said, we still need to think of outfits. Now that we're creating our own jazz whole (connected to the cafe, I'm assuming, maybe we should dress ultra-casual in the style of all those jazz greats that played in their jazz holes. Bebop guys, you know? Bird, Roach...

Ultra-casual as in sweat suits?
*stops to think*
*ends up ROTFLMHO*
*finally stops *
phew...
Allright... So, "YP and the Hoopy Hoopsters" it is then? If the others agree, that is... Now to find someone the manage the place... I would volunteer, but I really can't, seeing as I'm not online _that_ much, and when I am, I'm at w*rk, and really have to get something done in between all my conversations...

*laughs for a while, and wipes a tear from his eye*
Sweat suits...
We'll find someone, but I appreciate your considering the offer.
*imagines the band in sweat suits, and cracks up again*
