youre asking for a lot sweetie--to identify the class of a sailing ship isn't so hard--count the masts, check the shape of the hull and (if applicable) count the cannon decks. But to actually identify a ship from a photo and provide background of it is difficult, particularly if you don't have the vessels' names (and that was my understanding) It's not impossible, but an amateur enthusiast such as myself really can't do the research without more information--the ships' names would be ideal.
drop me a line if you need anything, or just to talk.

Yes, I know I ask a lot, but if there's anywhere I'll find someone interested enough in ships, I'm sure it's here at h2g2.
And as for identifying the vessels, I think several of them partake in the Race every year, and will not be too difficult to identify.
I even recognized 3 of them myself from an old pack of playing-cards, which had classical tall ships on back. Unfortunately that was in my childhood, the cards are no more, and they had a lot of info besides the picture...

Well, one way or another, good luck to you. I wish I could help, I really do, but as much as sailing vessels interest me there's no way I have that realm of information. That, and I live in the states--I've no idea which festival you're talking about.
Have fun with your project, and drop by my homepage when ya get the chance. There might be a submitted article or two you'd like.

Well met, milady Titania.
Have the ships already departed from the port of Stockholm? If not, the ships often have information leaflets on board which they are usually more than happy to pass amongst the visitors during the days they stay in the different ports.
At least that was the case when the Tall Ships were here in Greenock, Scotland, last year.
I am not sure if it still partakes in the race, for I saw it not last year, but the Crusenstiern is a magnificent ship that has, in the past, partaken, and I am sure that there is plenty of information online about that ship, which has a rich history.
Have you searched the net for info about the Tall Ship's race? I am sure that such a big event has a home page somewhere, and it wouldn't surprise me if that home page had some information about the ships taking part in the race itself.
That is the thoughts and the information that I can give you at the moment. I shall search for more information for you, milady.
Your humble servant,
Lost...

Milady Titania.
I have returned with information that I think thou might find interesting.
The official web-site of the CSTSR is located at http://www.cutty-sark.com where thou wilt find a section about the history of the races, thou wilt find a Q&A section and thou wilt find a description of the routes the ships will take in this year's race.
I hope this information will please thee, milady.
Your humble servant,
Lost.
Jag återkommer med mer information under morgondagen.

I'd thought I'd wait until I see if the photos are OK, no photos = no article.
And I'm busy researching for an article on Flamenco dance right now, thought I'd finish that one first..
But you're welcome to help me, of course you will be noticed as one of the writers if you find valuable inf

Be glad to help if I can. I something of a sailing ship junkie and naturally I have a copy of U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office publication H.O. 102 ( International code of signals ) which gives the meaning of all code flag hoists. As to identifying the name of a ship from its photo, that's a little more difficult. However it my be possible using the wealth of information on the internet and search engines to identify many of them.
